I just finished watching it. Watching the end of the women’s race was amazing.
OMG that was the most dramatic finish I have ever seen in an Oly distance Tri. So many women collapsing at the finish.
Yep, the only one that didn’t collapse was the winner. It was incredible watching how quickly the top contenders dropped off once they realized that they were done.
Why so little coverage of men’s race?
I was wondering the same thing…but I am a woman so I loved it anyway. Did the women have a better field? Was the prize money more for the women? Must be some reason…
Just an FYI the IAAF Golden League track meet is on versus right now. But I just finished watching Hy-vee. It was good until I feel asleep. It’s been a long day of driving and a sprint tri, but I taped it for later!
I guess you are one of the few people that would rather watch mens’ asses bouncing in Spandex instead of the womens’ asses? 
Make that the Women’s Hy Vee Triathlon. The men got like 9 seconds of coverage and THAT SUCKS.
Props to the women, they were awesome and the heat made for some serious drama as the young Canadian did her Julie Moss impression and Ohata was only a few seconds from doing the same when she crossed the line.
BUT *** ARE YOU LISTENING NBC??? *** There was a great men’s race that would have produced plenty of drama as well. It’s the guys who buy the beer from your sponsors, so at least give us equal time.
Or did I miss the announcement that Title IX had been extended to TV coverage of sports in general? Hey, I’d be willing to sacrifice: Darts, Bowling, Bull Riding, Bass Fishing and they can reduce all the billiards coverage to just the women…
Last minute addition: Take poker of the air, there is no f-ing way in the world that poker is a sport. I want to watch poker almost as much as I want to watch Sunday morning religious services on a 24-hour feed.

That was Kirsten Sweetland, and she’s a real contender. We’ll be seeing that kid out front in a lot of races from now on. Pretty amazing, when you think she’s only 18!
And yeah, they should have covered the men’s race a lot better. I watch the live feed the day of the race, and there were plenty of good moments – more than enough to build a good 30 minutes of coverage around.

My wife and I figured they focused on the women because an American won it and it was more “down to the wire” than the men’s race. There really wasn’t much drama during the last lap of the men’s race.
I was also disappointed that they didn’t even mention the AG race that had 1,700 participants during the morning, probably about a quarter of whom were doing their first triathlons.
I think the editing just draws more attention to that area. I kept staring at it trying to figure out why it was blurred and thinking “could it have really been that obscene on all three woman?”. Then I finally saw your explanation.
The women’s race was just carnage.
Wow, whoever blurred the crotches has his/her seat waaaaay too high. Lemme guess, some uptight American? That’s fucked up.
