Looks like a pretty awesome time!
That looks like a keeper of a snack.
Best friend was up at my land Saturday and got these off his cameras. A little more motivation to go hunting this year.
Dang! Those are some studs. I think the one in the bottom picture has what looks like a third antler. And I love the wide sweeping antlers of the one in the second photo.
What state are those in?
Spent the weekend deer hunting. Saturday was a bit of a bust, had a fork horn buck at 150 yards 5 minutes before shooting light that bolted, then showed up a couple minutes into shooting light, but facing me head on before taking off. Didn’t see a thing until the last minute of light, and a repeat of a forky head on with no good shot.
Sunday was insane, deer everywhere, bucks chasing does like crazy. Watched a buck chasing a doe from half a mile. Then my step dad shot at a doe, looked that direction and had a huge heavy 10 point buck at 75 yards. Tried to get steadied up and made a terrible shot over the top of him. Do not look at the sun through a rifle scope, makes it really hard to aim. He hardly ran, but shooting a muzzle loader takes a bit to reload. Watched him chase some does across the prairie for a few minutes and look over to see a small 8 point buck really close. Waited for him to swing around and put a good shot on him.
Watched another buck cruising from a distance, then had a doe at 150 yards, but no good rest for me to get a steady shot off. Was a lot of fun to watch deer do deer things.
Next year we drop out shotgun slug zone, so I can use a proper rifle. Will need to get a better stand set up for making longer shots with a good rest.
To anyone that hunts with an inline muzzleloader, I cannot recommend the Federal B.O.R Lock copper bullets enough. Put ‘em through the boiler room behind the shoulder and it smacks them.
Thanks for the hunt report, I always enjoy reading those.
Tomorrow marks the start of our 16-day deer gun season so there will be lots of people in the deer woods. We finally picked up the deer meat from the processor for the deer my son shot a few weeks ago so he was super excited for that. He, our dog, and I are leaving early Monday morning to go quail hunting for a few days which will be his first bird hunting trip so pretty excited for that. We are hunting a part of the state I haven’t hunted before so not sure what the hunting will be like but should be fun regardless. If all goes well, then we will turn around and go back out with my dad in tow for Friday through Sunday as well. It has been super warm here so ready for a cool down that is supposed to be coming next week.
What does everyone else have going on their areas?
I should have read your comment first. I spent about two minutes trying to figure out what part of the squirrel looks like that. All I could come up with had me thinking those were all males. lol
Meat in the freezer is always a good thing.
Been out a coupe other days/evenings and only seen babies. Our rut wasn’t too “rutty” (that John Denver was full of sh!t, man). Still about 6 weeks left to nab another this season, esp since it’s finally getting cold here in west GA.
Our “2nd gun season” starts runs this coming Thursday-Sunday. I’ll probably go out Friday morning depending on the weather and that will probably be it for me for deer season unless I get antsy and go out with the bow again.
