Humidity under Edge 500

I killed an old 305 a few months after I ran in the rain and started to see humidity under the screen. Never rode in rain with the edge 500 but very humid conditions in the Cincy area and now getting humidity changes under the screen on this as well. Any idea if I can disassemble this wipe it clean and reassemble, or is this a send back to Garmin. Really don’t want to sit on it while the humidity slowly destroys the internal wiring.

Thanks!!!

i corroded the plug to death on mine. but never had ‘humidity’ issues even after sweating profusely all winter directly onto it. now it has a piece of packing tape as a screen cover thanks to my dog some how getting it and putting a matching set of K9 punctures through the screen… even with just tape on the screen it has held up through sweat and rain storms. (though i’d think the amount i sweat is worse than rain storms)

Awesome!!! Great way to ‘personalize’ your gear…

Once, I’ve had a bit of humidity under the display of my Edge 500 (after riding in the rain). I let it sit out in the sun for a day or two and it was gone.

Send it back. I’ve owned 3 Garmin Edge’s and never had issues with any of them fogging up in any conditions. According to this, they’re supposed to be water resistant to IPX7 standards (immersion for 30 minutes at a depth of 1 meter).

Have been using my 500 since spring 2010, in all weather conditions from 100+ degrees to zero degrees to torrential downpour for hours and have had no issues at all with the humidity (or any other issues for that matter).

Thanks guys. Unit about one year old. I will contact Garmin.

They are - at least, as long as there are no defects in the unit you got. For fun, I tested this last year in the bathtube with over a grand in cycling gadget ‘toys’:

Thankfully, I didn’t have to make any warranty calls… I’ve since added a 25m test for all the product reviews I do, usually in a big stock pot. Always worried on pre-release products I’ll kill the only sample I’m given…so it’s the very last thing I do the night before the release.

Mine 500 fogs up sometimes too.
I leave it somewhere warm with the rubber clip over the port undone to dry it out.
Doesn’t bode well for the long term life of it though.
I should have sent it back when under warranty, but required it for training then.
I don’t think it is very well sealed. If I hold the edge to my lips and blow gently I can feel the air going into the case between the blue body and the top silver bit. Obviously if it is pouring with rain and you are going fast, that means water or damp air could easily force its way in too. That little rubber cover for the usb port is a useless seal too - poor design
