Hulaman in OR - tell me about it

Anyone done it? Comments? reviews? suggestions?

Thx, AP

I did it a couple of years ago. I think it was the first year of the race so it was pretty small. I thought well run.

Great swim in Hagg Lake, Great bike route around the lake a couple of times then out into wine country. There was one heck of a hill about mile 20 I think. Wow, Big one. I thought the bike course was really nice.

Run is a two lap course. PRetty flat, kind of nice in a park for some of it. Kind of blah on the road for some of it.

GREAT FOOD and party at the end. I think because it was small that year. I loved it.

The guys at Athletes Lounge are racers and do timing for events all over. I think they have a good idea about what is a good race. I felt like they cared too.

The point to point thing is wierd. but really not bad. Boy as I think back it was kind of a fun day. I think I am doing it again next year to see how its changed.

Let me know if you have any further questions,

Thanks, have done Spokane several times and that’s a point-to-point bike, I didn’t mind it but yeah it’s a bit weird…

Wow, Its changed. Just checked out the site and it does not even go to hilsboro anymore. BUT it still has clapshaw hill road at mile 40 something. Right after you get on clapshaw hill that thing goes vertical. Its short, but steep. Fun decent off the back, straight and fast.

I’ve never done the race, but did tons of training out there when I lived in Portland. Hagg Lake is a great lake to swim in and the part that goes around it is lovely, but on chipseal road which isn’t the most enjoyable thing to ride on. The riding out there is gorgeous. And since it looks like they are keeping the race in Forest Grove, you have to stop here for a post race beer: http://www.mcmenamins.com/index.php?loc=59 You’re welcome!

ah you know me so well… thanks in advance

AP

Which bike/config will you be riding?

The Clown Bike a.k.a. Soloist, with the Old Squishy saddle on it (changed it this morning, had to drop my seat about 1cm too). I’ll leave the drivetrain as is for now, but likely put on a 27 for IMC - easiest change I think…

AP

Cool - triple check that seat height and then don’t take any risks out there on course.

oh yeah. nothing worse than the uber loose saddle during a race. but hey, it’s only a sprint!
