So I got the aegis fixed, the repainted the frame for me. I was going to sell it but put it on the trainer last week and rode it. Bang! Huge dent on the bottom for the cadence sensor. So I figure I was going to ride it, how bad could it get? WEll I flew with the bike in the pack, same way I packed it a millions times, and there is a HUGE dent on the top tube from the plane ride…
I am so discouraged, what did i do wrong and what is the best way to touch up? I am so nervous about travelling with the new bike, but i am planning on doing it all the time. Tricks? words of sympathy?
Dent the paint… chip of paint gone. It seems to me like it’s a botchy layer of paint. But my frame WAS cracked which is why they repainted it in the first place. It looked new, now it looks new with a huge paint dent:-(
i have a Aegis T2 and I have taken it all over the world. I always use those water pipe foam thingy and wrap it around the top tube, fork, seatstays…etc. It works! Good luck!!
The only thing that might help you is a bit of prior prep that will save you packing tie later. If you have a hard case you can get bricks of foam that you then pre-cut to all the right shapes.
You have a brick for the top tube, brick for the fork… all cut to your measurements so that it is packed the way you want. All it taks is an afternoon, sharp knife and a tube of superglue and you’ll be all set. It takes a bit of forethought and effort but it will get you all set up for the future and you’ll never have to worry about bubble wrap again.
If there is no dent on the outside of the bike box then it is not the airlines fault, its the way you packed your bike. Most likely your bike box will get put into the airplane first with all the other luggage on top of it, then its up to the pilot on how hard he wants to land the airplane and damage your box, you should check next time and make sure that the pilot is not a female and not in your age group, hahhahahhaa.
Of course im just joking, that sucks about your bike.
Not sure how to prevent the shipping problem but you might want to seal up that paint chip with some touch up paint or at least clear nail polish so the paint doesn’t continue to chip off…
