Hub lock up when cassette fitted

A friend just got their wheel back from a recall over freehub issue on ritchey wheels.

The cassette body spins freely when no cassette is on but as soon as you fit the cassette and begin to tighten the lock nut (hand tight only) it locks up as per a track wheel. No free wheeling ation.

Any suggestions before they return the wheel to the dealer??

Do you have a picture?

my guess would be that the freehub was re-installed incorrectly - parts in the wrong order or reverse direction - the washer under the fixing bolt or under the freehub body (if there is one) is often not symmetrical and can’t be flipped.

Is there a spacer missing from behind the cassette? I.E. is the lockring touching the free hub body when you tighten it down (instead of just the outer cog)?

Just picked up some new hand built wheels and had this same problem a few days ago. I pulled the cassette off and put it back on 3 times figuring that was the issue. I even called up JohnA to come over and help and drink my beer. Nothing worked. So I took the bike for a ½ mile ride and it worked perfect. We figured it was the grease packed in the hub needed to get worked in. Give it a ride and see if it works.
