HRM reading 211 BPM 2km into my ride yesterday

I just bought the Garmin Forerunner 305 a few days ago and had my first long ride with it yesterday. Only 2 kms or so into the ride i was on a mediocre downhill on a busy road and my BPM reading came out as 211. Im wondering if maybe I was spooked by a truck or something but who knows… I do have the high end of normal blood pressure and my avg BPM through out that whole ride (4 hours, 115km) was 141.

I guess im concerned with this reading. What are the chances of it being a mistake by the watch or if it isn’t a mistake, is this normal?

Thanks

Sounds like just a mis-reading! Mine will do that from time to time if I have it a bit loose, or it doesn’t have a good connection with you body. Make sure to wet both the pads!

ahh k great. thanks! Ya i havn’t wet the pads while using them yet so i’ll definitely try that. It was only the one data point that read that high as well so hopefully it was just a misreading

Spit Lube seems to be the preferred method by most here on ST!

Mine HR monitor (not a Garmin) spikes momentarily every once in a while if I’m riding under (or near) high voltage power lines. Probably just an anomaly. Stuff happens.

I seem to get the same kind of reading at the start of many work outs. Yesterday, my HRM read a max rate of 240! I think it has to do with with the fact that the contact points aren’t wet enough?

theres a million threads on just such a topic. once pops up every few weeks. its common.

I hate to be the one to tell you this, but you’re dead. It happened 2km into your last long ride. Sorry dude.
