I’m wondering if anyone else has trouble keeping their HR monitor strap up where it’s supposed to be, rather than having it falling down to their waist band over and over again while running. If I wear one of the Polar jog bras (where there is spot to insert the strap), I have no problem, but those bras aren’t the most comfortable for longer runs (chafing) and I wouldn’t want to wear one in a longer race. I’m built like a swimmer–bigger shoulders, smaller waist, so that band slides right down.
Do you wear it under the bra or prefer to wear it below the bra? I wear mine tucked up right under the Girls, under my bra (regular Sugoi sport bra), so the bra keeps it in place. Bodyglide req’d tho, or else nasty chafage can occur. I’ve worn it like this for 1/2IMs before and been fine.
If I had to wear it below the bra, it would fall down too, I’m built in a similar way to you. You could try tucking the back elastic part of the strap under the bra, and keeping the transmitter (front) part below the bra…
Same problem here, I can’t run for more than a minute without the strap sliding down to my waist. I therefore have been using regular suspenders for years – I adjust them to their shortest length (I’m only 5’6"), and attach the four clips to the HRM strap; never had a problem with this, although it does look funny when you’re not wearing a T-shirt.
Hmm, language problem here, J. Suspenders are what are clipped on to keep a lady’s stockings up, i.e.
Now that’s not a look I want to pursue! The only strap I can keep up is the wearlink that comes with the 625X or available as a retro-fit, if you can try one I would suggest you do.
ladies, i’ve been dying to talk about this with someone who knows what i’m talking about! i just make my strap really tight and tuck it under whatever sports bra i’m wearing.
my bigger problem is finding a heart rate monitor that fits my tiny wrists and does more than simply tell you your heart rate at the moment. what HRM are you using? the only one i could find that’s small and has decent features is a timex, but its chest strap doesn’t read very well for women. using a contact lotion helps but is kind of annoying have to deal with. anyone else with this problem?
Another guy with the same problem.
It stays put until I breath, and then it slips.
My chest is pretty darn triangle shaped, so it just won’t stay put.
I’d wondered about sewing “suspenders” onto it, but that seems a little odd.
I was serious above, try some medical tape, see if you can get any 2 sided tape. Hell if models, showgirls, and performers can tape their boobies into skimpy outfits so they don’t pop and it works, then I don’t see why the same principle wouldn’t work for you fellas.
I have a Polar S120 and a Polar Protrainer XT. I got the latter one 5 or six years ago and thought I’d be gald to have the HR monitor and cycle computer all in one. It took me about 6 months to get throught the manual and figure it all out and then I decided that I’d just rather have spearate HR monitor and computer. (Yes, I hate the mechanical aspects of bikes…)
While pregnanat I misplaced my expensive monitro (Found it last month on the hat rack–which was probably a very sensible storage place to a hormone-laden person) and was so mad at myself that I just got a relatively cheap one on sale. The band on the newer one is narraower, but I still have trouble reading the face when the watch is on my wrist, wether running or riding. At least I can mount it on my bike and see it a little bit better, but no–it doesn’t really fit my wrist.
I do tuck the monitor band unde my bra, strap and all, and sometimes it digs into that bone in the middle of my chest. It’ll stay up for 20 minutes or so, but generally I get so darn sick of pulling it up that I finish my runs with it around my waist. I will try the medical tape–it will stay up better, I bet, but might still push into that bone. I admire how all of us have not divulged information regarding our endowment–if we started down that road, it might put the nice legs contest to shame! Suspenders…hmmm…I think that’s a good one for the guys.
Anyone here from Finland and might want to pass these “fit issues” onto the folks at Polar?
See what all these years in the US will do to someone? Braces is the proper term for you Julian – inexpensive and work great. You can even find them at your local Tie Rack.
