except my best power days are when it is warm. I know others this way too, we might just be reptillian
but you said your HR is higher in the warmer weather as well. It’s a lot easier to use human physiology to explain higher HR results in Higher Power Output than it is to explain warmer weather results in Higher Power Output as long as were not talking extreme weather plus 90 degrees or lower than 50.
More oxygen delivered to the muscle typically results to more power.
Not to give you unsolicited advice but it may be helpful to take a second look at your warm up for the cooler days prior to your TT and wearing a HR monitor would make warm up a bit easier so that you know your HR is high and ready to do work just before you take off.
The last piece of the puzzle is that if you are riding at the same HR and producing more watts than your previous race, then you are showing up with a more efficient cardio system. Heart is either stronger with an improved stroke volume (amount of blood the heart can pump per beat) or your muscles are using that amount of blood more efficiently. In other words you have achieved better fitness in training or like our youth in the weight room like to call it these days, " I’ve been making ALL KINDS OF GAINS".
I often see these guys with a black chest strap when their jerseys are zipped down. I can’t think of what this is other than a HR strap. Is it something else?
I spent the last week of the tour with the Astana team in the bus and cars. They absolutely use HR and of course power.
That is awesome. How did you get that to happen? Must have been an awesome experience.

I am doing work for their technical sponsor. I was there to do product testing.
It was amazing. I rode the team bus every morning and night. I interacted with the riders daily. We stayed at the team hotels and we ate with them (although the riders have their own table).
I spent 2 hours after the final TT with Fabio. He showed me his ride file. We talked about his Olympic experience and how he wanted to go to Tokyo. We talked about food, diet, calories, beer, girlfriends. He is a really nice guy.
Another rider shared his files, PMC and all. We talked tires and I showed him Tom A’s web site.
I had dinner with the team doc and GM. They were open, candid and were not afraid to talk about anything. I heard great stories of racing against Lance.
Many of the stories you hear are twisted. It’s unfortunate but so is life in the limelight.
I would have these people over for dinner independant of talking biking. They are just nice people. I hope to see many of them when they come back to Montreal.
I met Vino more than once. We talked triathlon. He is a tough cookie. But he is also very charismatic.
This is NOTHING like people imagine it. These people are no different than you and me.
It is not a life I would want, that is for sure. It is hard and they deserve every cent they make.
I also met several of the Lotto Soudal guys. They stayed in every hotel we did. Also a great bunch of people and man they can drink (not the riders).
Nice post Dan and comment @MDGREENE
I think the HR data would confirm the bodies response to the environment and ability to maintain the power. Outside of this triathlon world, numerous sports use HR and thankfully Polar. Nascar drivers are amazed at calories burned and this has them looking at their nutrition. I just upgraded the USA XC Ski to prepare for Korea, sent a certain Conor McGregor an upgrade, Monster Energy Supercross Ken Roczen something, and as always, happy to assist any ST’ers, just PM me!
