If you’ve gone for a swim there within the past week was the water warm? I’m thinking of doing the open water swim race on July 1st. Normally it is warm then, but we got off to a cold start for summer.
hmm… I didn’t even know there was a race on. I’ll have to check that out. Sorry but I can’t answer your question though, I’ve never swam there before.
Personally I haven’t been yet but a couple of my low body fat friends have and I haven’t heard any complaining so it can’t be too cold.
If you’re training for IMC you should do this ride instead of the Canada Day Sasamat swim. The lake will always be there but this ride is only once a year.

Happy Canada Day!
No idea, but the water in Okanagan Lake is BEAUTIFUL!!!
Sasamat is great with a wetsuit right now. On another note, I just raced the Iron Mountain Half Iron at Whonnock lake in Maple Ridge yesterday and the water was awsome! The race course was beautiful (a little tough and ver very hot)…I don’t understand why more people didn’t do this race.
I didn’t even know about this race. How many people entered? Is Whonnock a good swimming lake?
That looks like fun. I think my ass would be angry at me if I did that. I have not ridden more than 15 km at any one time for the past 2 years! Just busy with other sports.

I’d never heard of it until I got a flyer in a race package this year… Glad to hear it was a good event. How’d you do?
Whonnock is a great lake for swimming…you just gotta keep an eye out for the coliform (spelling?) late in the year. Usually not a problem. The lake is only 15’ at it’s deepest so it is generally warmer than other lakes.
You could do the sprint race next year.
Sorry for sending your thread off topic…just thought you should know about another decent lake in the area.
Hi Khai!
How’s training? I PR’d on a pretty tough course and it was super hot yesterday (33deg).
I did a 5:37 in my second race back since eight years ago. Are you going up to Osoyoos? I’ll be there to watch.

Dude, that’s AWESOME! Congrats!
I won’t be doing the Triple Crown (Oliver, Victoria, Osoyoos) and my next race isn’t scheduled until the Vancouver Sprint on the 13th. I seem to have developed some sort of an achiles issue since Victoria however, so I’ll have to play that one by ear. So far I’m not able to run…
