How do I know if I should order a 40 cm or 42 cm basebar for my cannondale slice?

Based on that, 40cm. It just means the width will be narrower. A narrower front will be more aero and if your already on the smaller side, might as well stick with the theme. I am bigger than you and use 40 fyi.

there is no real way to tell other than try them and see what you like. the shoulder width stuff is nonsense.

I personally just get the narrowest because it is a hair lighter and more aero and I notice no comfort difference. (and I am 6’3"!)
