How to replace internal cable guide on Specialized Transition?

One of these guides is busted up on my frame. It was gummed up with triathlon grime (gu, sweat, fluids) and pulled out of the frame when I removed the cable. Can this be repaired by me? My LBS told me to do a frame replacement, but the frame is in perfect condition and has sentimental value to me. I’d like to use the thing as more than a fixie.

Any suggestions?

I do not believe it can be repaired (it’s molded into the frame at production time). It is one of the limitations of the Transition design. But it’s easy to prevent with regular cleaning.

Thanks. Yeah, yeah, I don’t even think it was that dirty. It just got worn out.

Expensive fixie frame. :frowning:

My cable housing got sweat-fused inside the frame to the cable guide and was completely stuck. It took about two weeks, but Specialized pulled it out and replaced the housing for free.

Did you do this through your shop?

My shop gave me a generous deal for $1400 crash replacement! What a deal! Thanks, Specialized!

Ha! There should be a middle finger font color! I propose green, maybe chartreuse.

just a thought, if the frame is shot anyway.
rig up external cable routing. assuming it’s the rear since you said fixie, epoxy on stops or use cable ties to run the r der cable along the top of top tube (or the side), past seat mast and down the back of the seat stay. Might also be able to put a cable stop on the HT and run it down the side of the DT, under F Der and along top of chainstay. There’s some bike that runs the cable like that, it has a guide on the frame for the bend. Anyway, it just depends on how much work you want to do on it.
option B, can you use DI2 and run the cables externally?
good luck

Ha, for the price of Di2 I can buy a new bike that I don’t have to keep charged. So I’m getting a Blue SL and moving all my parts over to that frame.

I actually considered external cable routing or looking for home remedies for the internal noodle problem, but ended up biting the bullet on a new frame. I really wanted to have one more bottle holder for long rides during which I don’t want to be stopping quite so often to refill my bottles. So this gives me something I wanted…albeit not at the best cost.

Thanks for your advice!
