I’m on vacation and can’t find a bike shop within 60 miles. Yesterday I got a cut right in the center of the tread. Anybody had success using superglue or some other type of glue that could be found at a grocery store/CVS to fill up a cut? The tire will probably get relegated to trainer duty once I get home, but it’s all I have with me.
I’ve put a Park glueless patch on the inside but there’s so much debris (glass, oyster shells, rocks) on the roads around Gulf Shores, AL I know something is going to work its way in. Or if anybody knows of a shop in Gulf Shores/Orange Beach.
I have had good success filling large cuts with a urethane type cement designed for sealing/repairing wetsuits.
a piece of tape inside the tyre to prevent the glue leaking inside the tyre, then refit and inflate to 90psi to get the tyre into its normal shape, then fill the cut with the cement, sometimes it takes two layers to get it full and even.
this seems to hold up ok, although I relegate any tyres like that to training only.
My husband and I always use a piece of cardboard (from a new tube box in our saddle) as well as duct tape (several pieces thick) as a boot. Total bummer for you!
depends on the size of your tire cut, i have many, many times used about 5+ layers of duct tape stuck to the inside of the tire as a patch. usually works great, and duct tape can be found almost anywhere.
clean the inside of the tire for better adhesion. precut (or pre-tear) the duct tape pieces before you stick them. then stick’em on one at a time, from the inside of course. if it doesn’t stick perfectly, don’t worry, the inner tube pressure will do the job for you.
