How to prevent chest (gas) cramps?

I frequently (about 25% of the time) get painful cramps in my chest during more intense run workouts. I’m sure they are caused by gas build-up. When I stop running, I belch huge volumes for about 5 minutes, then the pain goes away.

I can’t seem to find a pattern as to why this happens occasionally, so I’m not sure what to do to prevent it. I’m afraid its going to happen in a race sometime.

Any suggestions for preventing these kind of cramps?

Lay off the sports drink if you are using it. Just try some sater and endurolytes, see if that helps.

are you eating hot foods? dairy products? that stuff gives me the WORST GI problems on the run…
