How to inflate Hed Jet 90?

Borrowing a Hed wheelset for ITT championships tomorrow. Got the rear inflated with the crack pipe, but when I attach the pump to the valve extender on the front, it doesn’t allow me to inflate the tire.

what am I missing/doing wrong?

John

You’re positive the valve inner is unscrewed? Any air already in there - maybe tap it open?

The presta valve inside the extender has probably “closed down”. Jiggle, bang, let gravity work, and worse case scenario replace remove the tire and check the valve on the tube. Better to happen on the Jet 90 than the stinger 90…

what type of valve extender do you have? if zipp, just unscrew it, flip it over and unscrew the valve core and let some air out, then put the valve extender back on the correct way and pump normally, works 100% of the time…

Tried that, couldn’t get it to engage, and the tire was stored deflated. I’m about to take the tire off and see.

I have Jet 90’s. Sometimes between uses the valve core gets stuck. Take a spoke and insert it in the stem to dislodge the core.

I have several Jet wheels, this can be an issue with any deep wheel.

Often the valve gets screwed shut. The best was to unscrew it is to “unscrew” the valve extender while pressing it against one side of the valve so that the little brass valve nut unscrews.

With deep wheels, it pays to either crimp or superglue the valve nut open before installing the tube.

Well, I just suck. Took wheel off, found tape was wrapped around valve. Retaped, replaced, inflated and pinch flat. Replaced tube. Pinch flat.

I’ll just race with reg wheel and disc, at least that’s ok.

The tape is probably plumber’s teflon tape used to seal the valve extender to the valve threads (has nothing to do with the valve screwing shut. No comment on your tire changing skills.

I think my record is 6 tubes with holes in attempting to get a training clincher on. Extremey tight fit, tried using tools which was dumb. Final put leather work gloves on and with those managed to roll the tire on without damaging the tube. Way frustrating.
