I have always used the bike stand on my frame, but just read an article that one should never do this? I never tighten tight, but, …
I usually just hook my saddle over the clamp. That seems to work for the things I am capable of doing.
Not really convinced that it matters, but I generally clamp a carbon bike by the seat post if possible. I’ve always figured that if I were to break something by overtightening, it’s a lot easier to replace than a piece of the frame.
How tight are people cranking down the clamps on their bike stands that causes the carbon to break? I’ve always clamped the top tube, just tighten enough to hold the bike, still has a little bit of play in it and never had a problem.

Depends what type of clamp you’re using. If it’s a screw cramp, it’s much harder to over tighten. But a cam-lock lever clamp is very easy to crush a carbon tube.

That is what I have always done. I have the clamp on type of Park so I just adjust it to be snug, not tight.

I use the Park PRS-20 Pro Race stand. The bike is held on the stand by the front fork. Love it. I work on and wash my bikes using the stand. It is lightweight and folds up to be portable. 5 Stars
Curious, where did you read this? Got a link?
I think certain clamps can be used, but it really highly depends on the clamp, how it holds, how it tightens, the frame design, where you clamp on the frame, how you orient the clamp, what you use as additional padding between clamp and frame, how tight you make the clamp, etc.

" I know you should never clamp a carbon bike in a work stand by the frame. But what about a carbon seatpost?
Not a problem, says Calvin Jones, director of education park tool. …
Oh, and that prohibition on clamping carbon frames? That’s good advice for frames of any material.

Nice but I like to work on my bike with all the parts on.
