Seems Senator Arlen Specter provided a key Republican vote for the stimulus package in exchange for a $10 billion increase in NIH funding. I’m not sure how I feel about it. On the one hand it is great there is more funding going there but I don’t believe the stimulus package is the place to put it.

It probably wouldn’t bother me so much if the Republicans hadn’t been dissing the Democrats for all the crap added on to the bill.

Spector is a RINO if there ever was one. As if rino wasnt’ enough, he is a dinasour as well. The dude needs to retire, just like Kennedy, Byrd and a few others. They all have presided in Congress for years and years; they have played both sides of the fence. What good have they really done other than get money appropiated to so much crap…nothing wrong with NIH funding, He’s partial to it because he is a cancer survivor - well guess what, I am a cancer survivor too maybe we should pony up some extra dollars for my pet causes…but we just don’t have any more money for extra funding for that cause and many others.
Why can’t we take money we are already spending and re-allocate it to these projects?
Anyone who is surprised that an elected official voted for something because they got a pork kickback for doing so is blissfully unaware of the American system of government.

I cant wait for the new white house budget proposal for the next fiscal year to come up. It should be out march/april. I am going to bet it will look no different than this so called “stimulus bill”…!!!
Too many people make too much money from this stuff. We’ll never get away from it. My only hope is that some people who need it actually benefit from it. If there has to be pork, at least this money went somewhere useful.
