Or how about you just create an app that way Slowtwitch readers can read the articles and forum without squinting and losing their eyesight on their smart phones.
Probably! I have the same problem too! BTW… I already have the Slowtwitch website bookmarked on my iPhone home screen before this post but I just think it would be a real improvement if there was an actual dedicated app.
The mass’s desire for a mobile app (or, even better in my opinion, a mobile-optimized version of the website) does not originate from a desire for speedy access. Rather, it’s being able to easily read stories and forum threads without a lot of zooming and reorienting. i know it’s an issue of significant additional cost and I completely respect that. it would be awesome though.
Maybe I have eagle eyes - still. I actually hate most apps and mobile sites on my phone and always look for the real site.
But yes, cost is a factor here too.
X2. The real site is always better. FWIW I have had that ST quick link since a couple of days after I finally got an iPhone. Back when I was stuck in BB hell I used really want dedicated mobile sites/apps. No idea why anyone would use a mobile site on an iPad. That would just be silly.
The “problem” is that an app - in order to be useful - needs to be REALLY good. And building something that complete is expensive. Too expensive, right now. And I don’t want to release something half-assed that adds no real value. When we do an app - and I think we will - it will be fully featured. Until then, no app. I’m going to try to get mobile CSS this winter, which should help somewhat.
As some have suggested here - I don’t necessarily need or want an ST app (unless it offered something really useful and amazing). But a mobile optimized version of the *forums *would be nice. It can be a bit of a pain to scroll around on an iPhone and the advanced editor doesn’t work on the iPad.

that is the only ‘gripe’ i have… and it’s not that big of a gripe.
ST lives on Sponsor ad’s…most mobile apps don’t have those ad’s. i don’t see ST supplying us a way to look at the site minus the ad’s that pay to keep the site up and running? that’s kinda like shooting yourself in the foot isn’t it?

You’re right, I wouldn’t expect such a thing but I also wouldn’t expect that a mobile optimized version of the forums would omit the ads. What I’m was looking for in my post was just that - a mobile-optimized version of the forums so they are easier to use on an iPhone (and, to a lesser extent, on an iPad). I assume that such a version would still incorporate the ads.
I agree… a half-fast app wouldn’t be worth it. My original my point was to point out that although Slowtwitch recognized people using their phones a lot to view the site, the recommendation didn’t really provide a full solution to some of the issues using a phone to surf the interweb. I think the idea of a mobile page is a good one and something that I look forward to using.
