So, what is the best way to find elevation profiles for cycling routes that I take? I have seen some before, but I want to know where I can get them. BTW, I’m in Austin and if anyone knows where there are any elevation profiles readily available for popular cycling routes around here, that would be awesome.
Thanks.
Go out and ride them with a Polar S720, S725, S625. Preferably mounted to your handlebars and not your wrist.
Get a MotionBased account and see if anyone has mapped out any routes that you usually do. The Trail network will show a map and profile of the route.

Eric,
The TOPO software program will give you the profiles. Also, a lot of the local groups already have them for popular routes like the “dam loop”. Austin Triathletes has a number of profiles on their website but you have to be an active member to get the info and apparently my membership has expired
There are several others lurking around here with access to it though. I’d bet that Austin Cycling Association might have profiles as well. I know they really great maps for routes on their site, but I don’t have access to that either
You might also check out austinbikeroutes.com, perhaps there are some profiles there.
What route do you ride regularly that you want the profile of? I have a lot of profiles stored from my Polar and I might have one that you want.
Cheers.

This site has topological maps with contours for most of the US, you’ll have to do a bit of adding up to get your elevation gain/drop though:
