How to avoid the KICKR 'brick wall'

I just got a Kickr. Pretty neat for training. Using it with TrainerRoad.

I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to avoid the ‘brick wall’ effect.Namely, I stopped after an hour to change a video to a next one, and trainerroad paused. When I got back on the Kickr, the pedals were almost completely immovable, despite the target power being a measly 125 watts on a recovery interval. Even my 500watt equivalent pushes couldn’t get it going more than a few rpms.

Is there any way to set it to ‘gently’ ramp back up to target power? In this case, I’m pretty sure it was even exceeding target power, since 125 watts is a really, really easy effort, whereas that brick wall was a beast, like climbing a 22% incline on your largest gear. I could barely get the pedals to move even with my full body weight on a pedal.

Put it into standard mode (where your gears control the resistance) prior to pausing.

Did you do any calibration before you started or after a few minutes? I had this once or twice in the beginning after getting my KICKR, but after initiating the spindown procedure it disappeared.

I did the initial calibration with my iphone. I didn’t do a spindown/calibration with Trainerroad - I believe that is an option and I’ll try that next.

Umm, how do you do this while you’re on the bike? I don’t have that RFLKT thing. (Does that allow you to do that?)

You can do it in TrainerRoad. Lower left corner.

I meant more the logistics. I have to get off the darn bike to mess with the computer settings. Am trying to find a way to not have to get off the bike. I could get a remote mouse, but would rather not.

Put the computer closer to the bike? If it’s on a stool with the stool touching the front wheel, you can reach it no problem. Or get a music sheet stand.

I’ve pedaled backwards to “release”.

I can reach no problem.

Pedaling backwards 5 times will usually reset the Kickr and release it from that pedal lock-up.

i have noticed when I stop, or fail in ergo mode i have to let the unit spin all the way down until the watts are displayed as a dash (not a zero) then you can spin it back up.

you can also hit the calibrate button then just cancel out once it lets you spin back up

i asked trainer road to add a “coast” button, I think it would really help for those times when you bog down in an interval and just need a quick 5 secs to get back over the gear. If i fail in a workout, it ends up taking 30 secs to get back under way
