How to acclimatize to heat in a cold weather climate?

How can I adjust to the heat for IM Arizona when I live in Seattle and have to train all winter long? Should I just sit on the trainer and turn the fan off and sweat to death and then go running outside over-dressed to simulate being too hot?

I want to make sure my body doesn’t freak out going from the cold of the NW to the warmth of AZ.

I know its a long way off, but I had a few free moments and my mind wandered.

Thanks

It won’t be hot in Phoenix that time of year, in fact, I’d anticipate a very chilly swim and a cool first part on the bike. The run will be comfortable.

If the race was in the summer, I’d worry.

The average temp for that day is 83d, with an avg. low of 53d. Record high is 102d in 1989, and last year it was in the low 90’s.

I’m struggling with the same thing. My plan is no fan and a space heater next to the trainer.

Buy the book, “Performing in Extreme Environments.” by Lawrence E. Armstrong.

a local person who did the badwater ultra converted their deck just for this: treadmill and several heaters run full blast so they could get fairly high temperatures.

I don’t think overdressing and running outside is the same thing, as the air that you breathe in will be cold and your body will learn to depend on it for cooling, sitting on the trainer/dreadmill with a fan on blowing hot air on you is a much better representation of what you’ll be subjected to come race day, not that it will be any pleasant though…
