Right now a lot of the left are saying witty and funny things about the stupidity of the Republicans. Feeling all nice and smug and as a whole being real assholes. You guys enjoy being defeated? You guys have any idea what it looks like to people who have normalized views of other people? Do you realize all you are showing is you inability to communicate with people outside of your little sphere of ideas?
Well people thanks for nothing. At this rate you will have isolated not only Republicans but also those with a healthy and sane ability to understand their fellow man and will either stay home during the next election or go Republican in an attempt to further them from you.
agree about dems whining etc…and making comments about reps.
but it’s the same thing the other round mate…reps have normalized views of dems…same bloody thing.
It seems I remember a big whine-fest when Clinton was re-elected.
I also believe the “We are stuck in 6th grade and proud of it.” slogan originated during the Clinton-Bush election year… it seems, the Dems. only inherited the slogan.
I not a Republican so I will lable them the same. That being said the Democrats are the ones who had there ass handed to them. The democracts are the ones who have to make up ground.
You can continue to say “they do it too!” or you can make changes and win.
no I can’t…
I am not a US citizen. I am not a permanent resident either.
i can talk about politics, but that’s about it (I am also entitled to pay taxes, extra taxes for not being a US citizen, pay for social security etc.)

You are a Resident Alien. You’re here because the Good people of the United States have allowed you to come here to practice your profession and to earn a living.
When you’re invited to the party don’t piss in the finger bowl.
no, I am here because the US needs me (I know that pisses you off).
if it wasn’t the case, I wouldn’t have been granted a visa.
if on the one hand I am told: we need people like you but on the other hand I am told ‘you’re a f…kin’ foreigner, you have no f…kin’ rights’ then, I will take my expertise somewhere else where I am really seen as an asset for the society.
You can by being an example of rational thought. Drop the he lied and he sucks and we’re sorry and we’re ashamed and talk policy in a calm rational manner.
Seems to me that if you were truly needed and had skills that we truly need then a company or university would bend over backwards to get you your visa. I know our company has dedicated people and lawyers who do that very thing full time.
Companies here will do whatever needed to ensure that good people are kept. Could it be anything else that is holding up or delaying the process? Does the university recognize and value your skills?
I have a visa. an H1-B visa. not a permanent one.
The difference is that in the industry, they usually have attorneys that take care of visa issues (including green cards)
In public universities, I am a state employee, I am paid by the state, and yet, they don’t do anything for the visas…doesn’t make any sense at all…
$3000 for an H1-B + $1000 of premium processing fee. If I change jobs (and I am doing that right now) I need to add an other $3000 + $1000…
Currently, it’s min. of 2years for labor certfication. Also, during that time, leaving the country is a bit risky (which makes going to conferences really fun ). Then you add an other 2 years to get your actual green card…
Add to that a nice bunch of dollars…
by the way, to be honest with respect to the previous thread we had on the subject, one of my colleagues worked in France, and it was a major pain in the butt to get a working visa (but it was very cheap). However, he agreed that this is just the french administration…these guys are born to be pains in the butt.
For info, I would get permanent residence in a couple of months in Canada or NZ. It’s not like I come without speaking english, with no qualifications, from pakistan, with 3 wives…
I see. The universities and state work differently than private industry.
It’s nothing to spend thousands of dollars where I work to get someone in on a visa, green card, or even US citizenship. The company takes care of all the paperwork and costs.
actually many public schools take care of this. This is something related to the TX legislation (but then the legislators of TX can go anywhere they wish first class, stay in the most beautiful hotels without the limit imposed on the other employees of the state, etc…)
States like California (for instance), is one of the states I know that take care of visa issues and relocation). Most schools will pay for an H1-B.
Many schools wil not have their attorneys pay for a green card though.
yep… I could say “they did it too”… but, that would become rather redundant… sort of like how many bottle of beer on the wall song… ugh!
But, I disagree about the Dems. having there ass handed to them… there is no doubt that the Rep. won… but it wasn’t a mandate. If the popular vote means anything… I would say it was closer to a split decision that was re-defined as a victory for Republicants.
If the popular vote had been (say) 40-60% popular vote difference (or simular large difference)… I’d probably marginally agree with the Dems. got there ass handed to them… but that’s not the case. Even when you look at elections on a congressional level… same thing… close victories. There was no mandate by the voters. It was very close.
The biggest mistake the Republicans can make is assume this to be a mandate and take radical hardline positions against a rather large majority of voters. IMO, this would reduce there ability to sustain their current political majority. They can not alienate a popular vote of 49 million… that would be political suicide.
I guess we shall see how smart the Republican leadership truely is… my gut feeling… the Republicans will screw this political victory up by holding to a single minded agenda - and screw there current electoral victory up big time.
The hell it wasn’t. He won! All this splitting hairs of what is this or what is that is crap. It’s the talk of a looser.
For example me and you race I win by 3 seconds are you going to come up to me and say “Ya know you only beat me by 3 seconds which is not a mandate so you better not used this victory to help get and keep sponsors.”
He won! He increased the number of seats in the house and the senate! He is the president! His first obligation is too those who voted for him. So wallow around in the unfairness and non mandatness of it all or dust off and look at your failures in the last election and plan ahead.
I change my mind about 2008. Things will still sail way left but Hillary doesn’t have a prayer.

Maybe that’s what your employeer has told you. However the fact of the matter is you are here as a guest of the people of the United States ( And I know that pisses you off).
