How "sturdy" are IM transition bags?

Starting to think about packing for Louisville next week. Question, how sturdy or rugged are the plastic transition/special needs bbags that they give you? Do people put their stuff inside a plastic bag within those bags? I’d hate to have a tear and my stuff fall out…
thank you

Just put your stuff inside the bag, it will be fine. I am sure there will be people here that can post cases where a bag ripped, but I bet better than 99% of the time there is no problem at all. I would call the plastic about like that of a department store bag material, much stronger than a grocery bag. I just measured a bag left over from from LP for you they are 17" tall by 19.5" wide and about 4 inches of total pleat on the bottom. You would have to stuff a lot of gear in that to stress it under normal conditions. Good luck, have a great race!

I would say that unless you are packing Hockey Skates or Steak Knives in your bag, it will be fine.

Plenty sturdy, just hope you don’t get a volunteer thinking they’re doing you a favor by tying the strings in a knot so your gear won’t fall out. If they do you’ll quickly learn how strong the bags are, as you’ll wish you had a steak knife, while ripping the side open to get your stuff.
