So I have my first class in pursuit of my MBA tomorrow (Thursday 9/1) evening. I actually totally misread my material and thought my first class was next Tuesday (9/6).
I have a few options on how I get to class:
* It is 11.5 miles from my place to the class. I figure at about $0.25/mile it is $5.75 to drive, and I can park for free if I'm willing to walk 1/4 to 1/2 a mile to the building, which I am. Traffic is spotty, it's your typical big city drive (for those in the area, it is 66 East from Falls Church/Tyson's to the Reagan Trade Building in DC).
* I can drive about 1 mile to the Metro ($0.50 round trip), pay about $3-6 to park and take the Metro, which is about $3-5 round trip.
* I can ride my bike to the metro (free and a safe sidewalk route for the 1 mile), the metro for $3-5 round trip.
* I can ride all the way in.
There might be some more inventive methods, but those are my top 4. One of the main reasons I don’t want to ride my bike (either to the metro or class) is that it is business casual attire, and I sweat like a mofo. The ride to class until October/November will result in me sweating the entire Metro ride (in A/C) to class. I could ride my bike (either option) in dress pants / khakis and just a t-shirt, or if I leave early enough with a change of clothes in tow.
I’m inclined to just drive for ease of life, I’ve tested it out 2 nights in a row and so far so good.
What am I missing? I do really kind of like the idea of riding all the way in just for the extra exercise and saving money. I might attempt to do this on days when my work schedule allows me to get home and change with enough time to not worry about being late. I’m hoping to do the bike ride on a non class evening within the next week so I can figure out how long it will take (there is a good trail/path there, but there are a bunch of weird starts/stops on the way).
