Oh, no. A woman after my own heart.
No bridges from playing junior hockey, but several chipped teeth. My nose goes a different direction thanks to a few dust-ups from much taller players I called not nice names.

Yup - I have a very hard time: 28 inch waist and 32 inseam. Found some Armani Exchange jeans that fit
$$$ I usually have to shop in the boys section or get specially tailored pants for work.
Yeah I played when I was younger, have 4 chipped teeth. problem is I was too agressive, scared the boys. So I was asked to not come back after about 13 yrs old. That plus the boobies that showed up made it a tough go. Everyone wanted to check me…
I am almost tempted. he he he. I like the aggressive women.
I used my (lack of) height to my advantage when I went into A hockey, that is, until the refs had figured out my mouth helped get minor, major, and game misconducts. Gee? I wonder why my back is as bad as it is?
Unlike Tyson Nash, I did back it up. But I got my ass bloodied a few times when the other guy could actually plant his hip when he punched. I admired that trait (as ice is not the easiest surface to plant your hip). I still think Tony Twist had that mastered over anyone in the NHL before or since.
yeah…my bad…and I was listening to it… ![]()
You’re in Chicago? Imagine that… I’m in Bourbonnais/Kankakee (Chicago suburb) right now. If only you weren’t married, and I wasn’t about a foot shy of your “you must be at least this tall to ride”. ![]()
What? You’ve seen (pictures of) my bike…
According to statistics I’ve seen, 5’10" is average for a male, 5’5" average for a female, with a standard deviation of 3" for males, and 2.5" for females. My opinion is that you are quite “short” or “tall” if you are outside of 3 standard deviations from the norm. So, short guys are 5’1" and below, tall guys are 6’7" and above. In between that is actually all pretty normal. So far one person has chimed in that is extreme (@3 deviations from norm), and one guys girlfriend (@4+ deviations from norm, quite rare).
The cool thing about being a 5’10" male like myself is that the world is pretty much built around me.
I once had a girl tell me “you aren’t short at all - you’re the perfect height… FOR A GIRL!”.
If she wasn’t so damned adorable I’d likely have done more than just smile…
I fell for you. At 32w 34i I find clothes shopping much easier in Europe.
I’m 171, but it depends on your build as well.
I’m fairly buff for a cyclist, and many skinny guy who are taller appear short due to their stature.
I was average height when I was in the Phillipines but most people would say “You’re short for an American, aren’t you?”
Finding a pair of jeans in a 30-28 (14H or 16H) is easy in the kids section, normally pay $12-$15 a pair and you get all of the cool hip styles that they wear. Hockey skates are a bit bigger than kids sizes though at a 7 1/2 but all of the other equipment is in kid’s sizes and that keeps things cheap too.
Having a short bike helps too. I think I only have to put out 160 watts to do 20mph. I like windy courses cuz taller people have a tougher time than I do. For the run my blood doesn’t have to pump as far to get to my legs as someone that is “average” height"
Just a couple of advantages of being short but I would rather be about 4 inches taller.

Wow, I never new there were that many short people out there! I am 5’6.5’’ on a good day. Usually 5’6’‘. I have brother - in- law who is 6’6’'. I just stand a little further from him when we talk so my neck doesn’t hurt.
I was tall in middle school too. that ended in Highschool. I work with youth in residential treatment and most of my clients are taller than me! It works out though, I am not intimidating, so then act more natural and don’t try to “Punk out the big guy”.
I have a good friend who is 6’. We always played basketball together in college. I learned how to defend the post against a guy much bigger than me. In pick up games and gus mackers, I am always told I play much larger than I am. There again, my shots down low do get blocked more than my buddies’.
Being short and overall smaller does help in endurance sports. I would like to have longer legs. I am all waist and stubby legs. Not much leverage power on the bike and very short strides on the run, but it still is fun!
My wife is taller than me and I am sure both of my boys will grow taller than me too. She doesn’t mind so it all works out.
The other benefit to being short is I think short people can shave their legs easier.
I’m about 5’7" and my husband is 5’4"…and he’s pretty darn sweet for a ‘short’ guy.
It’s not about the size (or height) of the equipment, it’s all in how you use it ; )
And he’s waaay too damn fast a runner for a guy with such short legs ought to be…
