This is something I kicked around on a nice long solo ride yesterday.
I’m training based on heart rate zones established back in the middle of winter, in an off-season spin class via HRM and perceived exertion (I haven’t done any threshold testing on the run, which I suppose I ought to do sometime too). What’s more, when I did those calculations it put my max at a nice 205, which sounds a little high if you apply the conventional (but a little imprecise, as I understand it) 220-your age formula. I’m 30.
Still, this is what I’ve got and I’ve gone with it, for better or worse.
I’m not so worried that my HR zones have changed dramatically since the season began, but I’m under the impression that LT does move a smidge as a result of consistent training, and I’ve never seen a recommendation on how frequently you ought to sort out your zones. Or when, for that matter; any point to doing it at the end of the season, as opposed to later on in the off-season?
