Do most of you guys do your long run one day a week, once every two week, once every ten days, etc? And how many days do you do it after your long ride?
Once a week, preferably on Wednesday. It it creeps to Thur of Friday then my Sat morning long ride is a bear.

Agree with CDW, long runs typically mid-week with the long rides on the weekend.
Now, “long run” can differ from person to person, so you have to be smart about what you do running-wise each week (duh!)…
SO if you do the long run mid-week, are you doing 2 long rides on the weekend? I thought about doing that, but my schedule allows me to get some pretty good bike milage during the week, after my saturday ride, I typically have about 180-200 miles on the bike for the week, so I just use sunday for a long run each week.
Do you think its better to do two long rides and get the bike milage up to around 250-275 mpw? and run mid-week?
depends on time of year–I’m 9 weeks out from IMFL so into IM=specific block at this point. So, long ride (6 hours) on W followed by short run brick (30-45 min). Long ride Sa (6+ hours) with no run. Long run su–2+ hours…

I have usually done my long run on Tuesday, with a long ride on Saturday and a hard brick on Sunday. That has changed as now I am working full time so my weekday hours to train are a bit more restricted. Right now I am doing my long run on Sunday after a short ride in the morning and saturday is still my long ride. I don’t mind going into my long run a bit fatigued as that is how we all do when we leave T2, so training on tired legs is pretty good simulation. Of course there is the increased risk of injury, but that is something that each individual has to balance across the entire training block.
This summer I ran long every other Wednesday while the weeks without the long run saw the same total weekly milage.

My coach has me doing the long rides typically on Saturday and the long runs on Sunday. He’ll switch it up from time to time though and put the long run on Saturday and the long ride on Sunday. When he does that, the long run is cake and the long ride is a bitch comparatively.
Every Thursday.
Long Run every Thursdays and long Ride Saturday and semi-long ride again Sunday.
You know I’m self coached and as a result learn from the school of experimentation! What I found lately is that if I long ride on Sat and then long run Sun - the long run sucks - bad form, etc… However, if I change it up and do a long run on Sat and long ride on Sun… the run is much better and the bike not so bad.
So what I am experimenting with is to “stress” the body with long ride Sat (4 - 6 hrs.) / long run Sun (>= 2 hrs.). But I don’t want to do this all the time - say every weekend - because I will just breakdown physically. I am working to get these stress busters in say once a month. The other 3 wks would be the Sat long run / Sun long ride format.
I am also convinced that variety is key and will begin doing a long run (> 2hrs during mid-week), Sat long ride (~6 hrs.) and a brick on Sun (begin with 2 hr easy bike and 1 hr easy run).
I kind of don’t like the way that my coach does the usual long bike and brick run on Saturday followed by a long run on Sunday. I think it’s too much damage to the body on back to back days. However, I’ve learned something. I’m not a professional coach so I’m just going to shut up and trust my coach’s program. That’s what I pay them for. Plus, he’s been doing this for many, many more years than I’ve been doing this. I’ll give him feedback and because of this feedback he is changing his coaching plans up a bit and I like it.
The way my work schedule goes, it works best for me (since I’m usually off on Sunday/Monday as opposed to the normal weekend) to get the long run mid-week and then do a shorter ride Saturday, followed by the longest ride of the week on Sunday, followed by a run…
I’ll have to dig up my schedule an inimitable Frenchy made up for me as he coached me for IMFL '05…it worked very well for me and I would have had a great (for me, anyway) day on race day had not my stomach revolted on me…
