The basics seem easy- don’t eat like you’re still doing 18-20 hrs/wk, and don’t do one last big workout. What are some of the other things that could result in disaster in less than 3 weeks?
At least I have something to do w/ all the spare time- 2 rooms in the house need painted, and my wife wants more stuff hung on the walls. If the weather quits sucking, we can take the kiddo to some state parks.

That will be the hardest part, most likely- I know I’m at my fastest ever right now, and want to test it out. I’ll do a local 10k next SAT, but that will be my longest “fast” run.
I do feel like a bit like a paranoid old lady about getting hurt. Like a dumbass, I rolled my ankle twice while walking to work the week before Rockman.
Don’t shoot for the taper. I have known some who have looked so forward to the taper that their body shut down . It was like the taper was race week. Keep your eye on the race. Make the race the focal point not the taper. Does this make sense?
I think there are many people who should skip the taper completely other than cutting back on the long stuff the last week. I know this guy who gets on a 15-18 hour/week training plan and he’s lucky if he hits 9-10 hours a week on a consistent basis and then talks about his three week taper. It makes me laugh…dude, you’ve been on a taper for 4 months.
Basically, don’t try to PR a bunch of shorter stuff; focus on race prep. Keep moving, don’t just take a 3-week nap. I planned on cutting to 60% this week (11-12 hours), 40% next (8-10 hrs), then keeping it light the week before the race.
FWIW, I’m honest w/ my volume- a brick that takes 6hr, 50 min on the clock gets recorded as 6.5 hrs (20 minutes of stopping at gas stations, piss stops, and changing for the run in the garage), not rounded up to 7.
