How much will a proper training program give me?

Today, my workouts are pretty random mixing swim, bike, run, strength as I feel.

I bought the Triathlete’s training bible at some point but haven’t implemented the training setup.

So generally, how much will a program according to base, build, peak, etc give me?

the training bible is a great resource. cover to cover is it full of great ideas and tips.

as for how much it will give you…that all depends on how hard you train. however, no matter how hard you train, a structured plan with a goal and purpose for each workout will definitely make you significantly faster.

I don’t think its the same to everyone, but getting into a structured training plan, and being constant helped me drop on the first year (or half year because the cycle was in about the 7th month by the time of the race) 2 hours and 14 min of my IM time, and I think this year I will do even better. But you forgot one very important component of it all TAPER.

All that said if you know what you are doing fine, if you have even the smallest doubt hire a coach and skip the guess work. I´m very happy with my coach, now all I need is to get some new toys so I can feed him more information to get better results, like a powermeter.

A training program is a road map (and depending on the plan or program, some help navigating) to get you where you want to go. It’s up to you to put the pedal down.
