How much water do you drink?

How much water does everyone drink?

I try to drink about 10, 12 ounce glasses a day. But I feel like I never stop going to the bathroom.

How much do you do when you’re working out?

On the bike my goal is a water bottle every 20 miles or 1 hour.

Should I be drinking more? or less? Whats recomended?

on the bike I drink 16 oz/hour
.

i drink at least 2 gallons a day, 20 oz every half hour while at work. that also means i’m in the bathroom every half hour.

today:

32 oz. this morning

3 liters at work

taking a 1.5 L bottle with me

along with 1 L of diet coke for breakfest and 42 oz. at lunch.

I pee a lot.

I can do 2 or 3 liters at work, which I though was a lot, but Jesus your eyes must be floating!

Working out I probably do a bottle per hour on the bike depending on the temperature and a glass or two after a run.

2.5 hr ride on sunday I went through a 2 liter camelback and another water bottle with gatorade. 85 degrees and dry. drank another liter on the way home and still took me 2 hrs to pee. I’m a sponge.

Normal days include 1-2 hours of training. I generally drink about 5-6 large bike bottles per day of water. Coffee, tea, diet coke or juice is additional to that

On days with long workouts, I add 1 drink bottle per hour or 1-1/2 bottles per hour on hot days.

At IM I drink at **least **1 bottle per hour of water, replacement drink or coke and I’ve never had to stop to pee in an IM yet. (4 so far) I take about 13 hours to finish IM. I am pretty crusy with sweat and salt when I finish tho’

My coach recommends 2 litres/day outside of workout volumes and I am usually pretty close. It seems lately the new school of thought is to drink enough to have pale yellow to clear urine rather than fixing a number. This makes more sense to me as everyone uses a different amount for their weight, physiology etc. On the bike I drink a large bottle per hour so 24 oz. It seems to work for me and it’s easy to keep track of. I read that over 1 litre/hour so about 33 oz starts getting in to the potential for hyponatremia. If it’s really hot I will push up towards the 1 litre mark, FWIW I drink close to the same amount on the run without sloshing.

I think the best thing you, or anyone else can do is weigh yourself before and after a workout subtracting the weight of the fluid (8.33 lbs/gal or ~ 2 lbs/qt) and measure your own sweat loss. You will never be able to replace all of the loss but I think you don’t want to be any more than 2% max.

Yeah, abut hard to get clear urine when you take vitamin
B. Any one else have that prob?

i think thats impossible, whenever i take vitamins my pee is never clear. i would think its still healthy.

A revolutionary idea: I drink when I am thirsty. No more, no less.

ONLY when I have a long, hot, difficult athletic event ahead (like a tri within a few hours), I try to load up on the water ahead of time just a bit. Perhaps I drink 30% more volume than I would than if I followed my thirst exactly. It works great and my times prove it.

Try it.

This going to the bathroom every half hour is absolutely crazy. And it plays havoc with your body’s water and electrolyte balance. And your kidneys go bananas trying to process that much water. Not good for your body at all.

It may be a shock, but this “thirst” thing was refined with many, many, many 1,000s of years of evolution–learn to trust it.

I drink a lot of water when I train. I try to judge based on the amount I sweat and the temp.

I keep a big Nalgene 1L bottle at my desk at work. I drink 2L at work everyday. Not 'cause I necessarily need to but only 'cause going to the bathroom every 20-40 minutes gives me an excuse to leave my desk.

Also, I don’t feel so bad when I pee in the pool 'cause I’m so hydrated that it’s just more water into the pool! heehee

I do notice a performance difference when I don’t drink as much water throughout the day.

I think water is becoming a fashion statement… I’m amazed at how many people carry around bottle water, or the fat weight lifters at the Y carrying in gallon jugs of water. Do they really think they are dehydrated that much? I figure if I can run 8 or 9 miles in 85 degree heat with no water they can survive a weight workout with out water.

Ive never quantified how much water i drink…but it is alot. I drink water, coffee and beer! Water first, beer second and coffee third…ok maybe a shot of jager in there for good spirits

I feel if I do go somewhere without my jug of water that i want it…besides peeing is good right…rids the bodies of cold-pricklies
