How much is this gonna hurt? (1)

So… I’m thinking of doing a race this weekend…

Half Iron aquabike- 1.2 mile swim 56 mile bike

I have done zippo training since IMCdA

1 ride in the last 3 weeks

No swims

300 hours of work in the past 3 weeks

Not so much sleep

I was thinking of going out, having a great time, and racing the hell out of it. Z5 until my lungs explode and my legs blow up. But of course, I won’t have a HRM, bike computer or watch.

Any guesses on how long it takes me to finish? 3 hours… 4 hours… 5 hours…

Jodi

i would think 7h… not a good idea, you arent part of the triathlete family anymore, You havent talk to me for ever and even post at all on slowtwitch… you place is in the medical tent… not on the race course!

dont try, i wont change my mind…unless you fedex me 2 dozen of Double chocolat chip right after ironman canada!

Between three and four hours I would guess. What prize do I win if I am right?

People like you make me sick! You show no respect whatsoever for the sport and for the event! Do you realize how many people racing planned to race for months and months, have trained properly, has their families and pets support them through those darkest moments in the life of an athlete, and now you show up and say “I think I’ll race without any training…”.

How dare you? Like I said, it’s a total disrespect for all those involved. Disgusting!!!

unless you fedex me 2 dozen of Double chocolat chip right after ironman canada!

You have yourself a deal!

I miss you guys…

:frowning:

Jodi

You’re right…

I’m an embarrassment to the sport! And everyone that I beat (hehehe)

But just try and stop me…

Jodi

So why have you been ignoring us? 100 work weeks is no excuse. Your 1 year anniversary with ST came and went without even a peep.

My 1 year anniversary and I didn’t even remember to send Slowman flowers and candy! Oh, wait… I’m the girl here… I didn’t even put out!

I think our relationship will be forever tarnished.

Jodi

Did see jonnyo new sweet ride? Other than that, nothing much new here.

How could I miss that???

Just because I’ve been quiet doesn’t mean I don’t lurk from time to time

Jodi

As much as you want it to.

Hit it and have fun. That’s what I’d do if I was a med student.

Pat

Do it and have fun - treat it as a “catered workout” - LOL!!

I can tell…you haven’t learned your lesson with injuries yet…have you?

I can tell…you haven’t learned your lesson with injuries yet…have you?

There’s a damn good reason I’m just going to do a 2 sport race…

Jodi

It’ll be “interesting”. I say go ahead and do it.

Do it. With all the rest I bet you’ll have the race of your life.

If you don’t, call Pam or Mickey and volunteer. They still need a few people. I’m helping to herd the swimmers into the water, then Jen and I are managing the run aid station near the park entrance. We’d love to have you out there with us!

I trained very similarly right before Steelhead and then I had the best race ever: 4:51! a couple of months ago I had Rockman, another HIM. I had never been so prepared and so fit in my life. I was ready and in the end, I bonked and finished in 5:35; go figure!
Moral of the story…you never know what is going to happen and how you are going to feel on race day!
Keep your nutrition straight and enjoy.

My question is why would you not do it?

You can swim pretty well, so you’re covered there and you were already going for a group ride, so the swim is a bonus.

If it hurts, just HTFU and deal with it

Bob

Actually I thought about this last night. You should only do it depending on which rotation you are in.

If you’re in surgery than have your appendix out first, or at least do a Lisa Bentley and rupture it first, then tell everyone it wasn’t hard.

If you’re doing OB/GYN do a 24 hour race, sleeping is for weenies.

If you’re doing Peds do it on a tricycle and stop and pet all the cute puppies and kiss all the babies. Might as well pee in your diaper while you’re at it.

If you’re doing medicine under no circumstances should you do any race. You should be home reading about the most obscure disease-in case a patient that doesn’t have it comes in and you can work her up for it.

If you’re doing psych by all means sign up for IRONMAN

; )

P

Yeah…but you think you can lay off the bike for 3 weeks and go ride 56 miles without injury? Oh…you must ride between 17-18 mph…my bad!
