What’s the deal with all the CTS pimping on the main site? There have been lots of other changes amongst the pros and while some of them have been covered, a lot have not. Do we really need a whole series of why CTS is so awesome, blah, blah, blah? If any of those guys have horrible, injury-plagued seasons do we get a similar series on why CTS sucked so bad for them? Just curious…
Didn’t you get the memo?
CTS is the new Cervelo and ST says the sun won’t rise without them.Free Kool-Aid for every new customer!
.
Middle of winter, not much going on…the more articles the better. Keep them coming!
you ask a very good question. and here’s the answer: CTS pays us nothing. and, brett sutton pays us nothing, tho we’ve written quite a bit about him as well.
and it’s pretty ironic, if you think about it, because we have 50 or 60 advertisers (or 70? i don’t know), including coaches, and how these two guys slid out from being among our advertisers i do not know.
doing a series on these CTS athletes seemed to me newsworthy, because so many of these top athletes are going to CTS. but CTS and sutton are not the only coaching enterprizes we talk about; yesterday in my interview with chrissie wellington i asked her some specific questions about simon lessing, and that’s on our home page as of yesterday afternoon. when cliff english was mentioned in conjunction with chrissie, belinda granger and hillary biscay leaving team tbb, we wrote about him.
but i think you bring up a very good point. where’s my vig, dammit?!
Seens that they get a good amount of positive plugging maybe they could offer the views a Discount

Why not a series highlighting the philosophies of some of the many coaches that actually contribute to the forum? It’s too damn hard to wade through the battle of egos and the shit-throwing that most of the coaching philosophy threads turn in to. You could feature some of the big hitters like Paulo, Desertdude, Philbert, GregX,…ok, maybe not GregX, but you get the idea.
If you want, I know a guy who knows a guy who can get your money. You wont have to pay him, but some time in the future he may need a return favor. Don’t let him down.
My question is are all the guys mentioned paying CTS, being paid, get a discount, etc. I’ve nothing against CTS, but in the book “LAnce Armstrongs War” it looked like LA wasn’t really trained by CTS. Obviously having top athletes using you is great advertising.
Much imn the same vein I wonder how much Cannondale discussed the possiblity of CW having a bad day. She could break records in every race this year, but if she picks up a virus at Kona and is the second fastest bike on the day, Cannondale is going to get flamed bigtime.

Haha, gotta admit I thought the same. Dan’s got a point though.
Indeed there have been some great articles on other coaches but never before has there been 5 installments one after another redundantly rehashing the same spill about maximizing their training and really looking at bike fit/aerodynamics. Fair enough that ST is not being paid by CTS (though there was a time they occupied a prominent banner ad on this site) but the columns lead to a perception that there is some handshake deal is going on, which is fine, that’s how business works but playing ignorant to the ill proportioned coverage is a disservice.
Their are a lot of very good coaches, physiologists and athletes that regularly contribute to ST and while it might mean you have to wade through some ego they are at least adding value. Ulteriorly motivated or not the focus on CTS by Slowtwtich reporting does undermine it’s core who have contributed far more to the success and and growth of ST (and the sport we all love) more than CTS ever has.
“the columns lead to a perception that there is some handshake deal is going on, which is fine, that’s how business works”
mypypeline.com, physfarm technologies (the very capable dr. phil skiba), ergvideo, principle fitness, and rocket science coaching, off the top of my head, are advertisers, and they all provide coaching or instruction. CTS is not among our advertisers in any sense, no payments made, no sweetheart deals, no exclusive access to content, tho, yes, a couple of years ago, they did run a campaign with us.
there is no handshake, handclasp, or gladhanding going on. i did not handpick them. there is no handwriting on the wall, i was not handcuffed.
wait a week or two, we’ll write about some other enterprise, and you can again do handsprings about the handjob that somebody must be getting ![]()

Why does all the good stuff happen when I’m not at the compound?
“Why does all the good stuff happen when I’m not at the compound?”
you’re just our chief technology officer. did you want a promotion to the advertising department?
Perhaps it’s just another Ponzi Scheme and they are trying to be the next Maddoff?
It could be brilliant for CTS, since everyone will be buying into the marketing and hype of being in the same company as Lance, Normann and the likes. Just hand over your money to them and don’t ask any questions. You can tell all your friends that you have the same coach as the big boys… :-0
