How many years will it take Al Trautwig to *get* the Tour?

I wish Bob would poke Al’s eyes out the next time he questions why Cadel doesn’t attack, or suggests that Cadel might attack, on the final stage. For Christ’s sake Al, learn about the sport you’re getting paid to blather on about for three weeks.

So Nostradamus, I’m assuming you could predict ex ante with 100% certainty that Cadel Evans would not attack even though he was only 23 seconds behind the yellow jersey? You must be a great predictor of the future.

Have you considered that Al is asking dumb questions in a calculated manner for the benefit of newbies that are watching the broadcast?

This a common tactic used in books, movies, and tv broadcasts.

Vinokourov 2005. Did he attack to win the stage or to get the time bonuses to gain a spot on Leipheimmer?

I can’t remember…

Or both for that matter?

He attacked because there was a road in front of him.

Not an oracle, just someone who understands a bit about the Tour (and bike racing), as you clearly do not.

Nah, I don’t think Al is that intelligent.

Sorta like you don’t understand the role Al plays for the broadcast?

=)

What’s that? To sound like an idiot? Job well done then, I suppose.

Well, to the extent I don’t understand that much about the Tour, I’m glad Al was there to give me a voice.

And just to refresh your memory o wise one, Vinokourov not only attacked at the end of the stage, because as you put it, “there was a road in front of him” but also attacked well before then during the stage. Cyclingnews put it this way. “Alexandre Vinokourov (T-Mobile), sixth overall at the start of the day but only by two seconds from Levi Leipheimer (Gerolsteiner), attacked one and a half kilometres out from the first sprint prime at Chatenay-Malabry and took line honours ahead of Leipheimer, placing both on equal time. On a count-back, the American still led by a fraction of a second, but as it turned out, it was not for long.” http://www.cyclingnews.com/road/2005/tour05/?id=results/tour0521

But of course you knew that already all-knowing one.

Have you considered that Al is asking dumb questions in a calculated manner for the benefit of newbies that are watching the broadcast?

That is exactly what he is supposed to do! Ask questions that the average or first time viewers are thinking. He does a great job of that. OK, so it might be boring to all you that know everything there is to know about bike racing. Just consider, if new viewers aren’t educated to the sport, they will not be interested in watching for long. No newbie viewers, no future enthusiasts, no coverage! After all, everyone, even you experts, started out as a newbie.

HAHAHAHAHA. That was good.

So why didn’t he attack? I mean is it not a stage in the Tour? Is not attacking kind of like just giving up before the game ends cause your down?

Ya I know it probably would not work, but why not try. Levi and Alberto tried to break RAS even though from thier comments after the stage, they could tell Ras was not going to be broken that day.

Its a race don’t you try to win untill you cross the finish line?

This giving up bothers me more this year than the fact that a few cheaters were caught. Hell why watch the last stage, catch the sprint highlight on the news and be done with it what a waste. It would have been great when Alberto dropped back to the team car to get his bubbly if Evans would have attacked right then.
