How many wheels would you travel to IM with?

IMC specifically. Race wheels are Zipp 999. Is it worth the hassle to bring another set of wheels for two or three training rides and some commuting?

Zipps will go in the Trico box. I have a double padded wheel bag but it would be a second carry-on.

Also, does the crack pipe fit well in a CO2 inflater head or is it better to use a presta/schrader converter. Inflater works fine on presta as is.

I’d really have to say 4 wheels. If it was me, I wouldn’t want to risk anything. There is basically zero chance of this happening, but if something really fucked up happens to your zipps on race morning, it’s better to have you training wheels in the car then not get to race.

If flying no more than two wheels for me. No need to over complicate the logistics.

If you can carry aa second set of non-race wheels conveniently it is worth it. The key word is, conveniently.

Perhaps the race wheels can go int their own compartment opr luggage significantly more safely than the bike case. It seem that when there is flight case damage (God forbid) it is either the wheels in the flight case taking a hit or the rear derailleur hanger. If you can side step that by seperating your race wheels from your bike case that is a big advantage.

Best of luck!

I always make sure I have a front AND a back wheel.

Do you mean your padded wheel bag is a check in bag, or you take it as a carry on? Where do you fit the bag if you carry it on?

I’ve heard of people using a garment bag and hanging it in the garment compartment. Anyone have a direct experience with this?

I’m going through some options myself, because I want the extra set of wheels at IM, “just in case”, but I don’t want to get stuck with buying a wheelbox and using it once. With some of the cordura-padded wheelbags (sci-con?), anyone ever use this as check in baggage and have it go ok for a set of training wheels?

Yes, carry on bag. On the assumption that it is about the same size as a garment bag. Haven’t tried it before but thought it would go in one of the hanging lockers at the bulkhead.

Thanks all.

I usually like to bring a spare set of wheels. It could save the race for myself or someone else. I drive to all my races, though. If bikes were made to fly they would come with wings.
