do “they” say every extra pound of body weight is worth?
famous quote is 1 sec per mile per pound
.
I just did a google search and found lots of “2 seconds per mile per pound” that you are overwieght.
That means I could have run 1 minute faster this morning in my tri. I took 4th in my age group and could have been 4th in my age group had a been those 10lbs less…OH…this means I would have gained nothing except starving myself to loose the 10 lbs and not gained any places : )
I knew I wasn’t eating bean sprouts, broccoli and and tree bark for a reason : )
for some reason I was thinking it was something more ridiculous, like 10 seconds, that would be to convienient, thank u both for the input.
Another way I’ve heard it is - you will go 1% faster for every 1% of weight you lose.
Obviously this only works up to a point, and then you die. ![]()
I’m not sure its a simple seconds/mile equation. Too many variables to consider.
All I know is I started skinny, lost 20lbs, and still run slow, haha

Jackmott…at least you are skinny.
My point exactly!
It apparently only counts loosing body “fat”. So you can only gain so much time as you have % of fat. The rest don’t count!! : )
