With all the talk about the ridiculous number of people signed up for IMC, I was just wondering how many online entries are accepted for the other IMNA events (I know that Canada doesn’t have online entries). There are currently 1900+ on the list for CDA, 2006, and online registration is still open. There are 2500+ on the list for Wisconsin next month, and a similar number for FLA 2005. So how many age-group athletes do they let in?
I would have thought your best option would be to check FAQs for each race and see what they put as the capacity. Although we know that is not a final figure, it may well give you a best estimate.
IMLP for 2006 says there are 2492 entries. If you look at the list closely there are a number of entries that are duplicates. Even so, they still have all of the race slots that still have to be given out. Total registration should be close to 2700 and about 2000-2200 attending.
These numbers always amaze me. That 20 times/yr there are 2000+ Americans fit enough to try an Ironman. This isn’t some small goal like a 5k. Same goes for the Chicago and NY marathons every year. 40000+ people fit enough to do a marathon. Every sunday morning on the way to church we see endless runners/walkers/riders. Yet the obesity epidemic keeps getting worse. The fit are getting fitter and the fat are getting fatter. We are losing the fitness middle class.
Up to today 2.322 athletes have entered the IRONMAN GERMANY 2006. Athletes who like to race on July 23, 2006 should enter inside the next days by Online Entry, which becomes effective only if payment is done immediately. Then the name will be on our competitors list (=guarantee for participation). After closure of the competitors list we’ll open a waiting list.
Due to our previous experience with a “no show”- and a cancellation rate of 400 – 500 athletes we’ll watch the start list closely to realise 2.000 participants on July 23, 2006 .
This run to the slots is overwhelming and surprising: For the first time in Europe an IRONMAN hit the barrier of 2.000 entries within less than 4 weeks after the race. We like to thank all for this faith.
