How many of your tri-friends are on ST?

Some of the recent threads got me thinking about my circle of tri-people.
Very few people that I know from participating in triathlon come here. Some of them might sneak a peak once in a while, but none are regulars.
At IMAZ last year, when I was suffering thru a disaster of a race, I was running/shuffling/walking with a few people, and none of them had even heard of ST.
A guy a ride with once in a while and swim with has been here once.
I probably have 30 people in my “tri-circle”. 10% of them have heard of ST (and that is probably because of me talking about it).
I think a lot of us on here think that ST is THE PLACE for all things triathlon and that the opinions expressed here are the same way that all triathletes feel.

I love coming on ST. I learn a lot. I laugh a lot. I like hearing stories of the good, the bad, the ugly, the fast and the slow. Because of ST, I have spent more money on equipment than I ever thought possible when I did my first tri. (And I am a cheap ass).

I don’t have any friends, I’m all alone in my moms basement
.

How about, how many of your tri friends did you MEET through ST. I bet I’m over 2 dozen. It’s a truly great thing.

I have some friends I met through ST and BT…so I guess they don’t really count.

Of the Tri friends I have here local that I met outside of the internet, very very few even know what ST is.

Almost no one takes ST very seriously outside the folks that are here regularly, and even some of them don’t take it seriously. Most people involved in triathlons won’t bother stopping by except occasionally at best.

I don’t have any tri friends. There are some other people I know that I see training around my area and some of them are on ST, but I don’t hang out with anyone that consistently races and trains for tris. That’s why I come here!

Sounds like we all need to get those ITU-style suits with our user names on them. That way we can recognize each other and end up being TnT’s evil twin.

Most of the triathletes with whom I’m friends in real life I met on ST. SlayerHatebreed, Mr Bubbles, desert dude, dddave (met him in real life before I figured out he was on here). Can think of 3 others off the top of my head who are not on here.

what does “take it seriously” mean, exactly?

Agreed. I’d argue that the majority of my friends who are into or somehow involved with triathlon I met through ST…

I’ve got some people that have turned into friends to good friends that I’ve met through ST.

I’ve met over 50 ST people in person through the years. Heck I’ve home stayed at least 20 over the years.

I get the feeling that only the materialistic triathletes care about ST. Most people dont want to be told they need to buy the newest fastest gear to be cool or fast. They just like tri for the exercise, experience or accomplishment. Unless you are borderline pro I doubt any of the information is really going to be necessary, but will make you spend a lot more money and have a much more flashy bike! Unfortunately for me… I am a sucker for this type of marketing… : )

thanks for the pillow and the warm embrace!
