While I do agree that a lot of people on this forum seem to “think” they know a lot about a lot of things (in this case the strategies and thoughts of racers on the tour), I wouldn’t be so quick to say they don’t know something. Are you a bike racer? Do you think you know more about the Tour because of that? I play a ton of golf and follow pro-golf really closely, but I seriously doubt for one second that I pretend to know what Tiger is thinking on a shot or why he hit it to one side of the green with a draw as opposed to the other side with a fade.
The best anyone on this forum can do, while the stage is playing out, is just speculate. Unless someone from a team (Astana for example) comes out and say’s exactly what was supposed to happen and when, then no one on this forum has the slightest idea as to why something played out the way it did other than speculating based on what they saw on t.v. (which doesn’t have a camera on every rider for every second). There are so many things that happen “off” camera that we have no clue what propelled them to take place, but then we see the reaction.
I find most of the comments a bit entertaining … some I agree with and some I don’t. Today, we had the benefit of the Geico camera being setup in Bruneel’s auto. So from time to time we got the strategy first hand from the director himself. As I haven’t seen the entire stage on t.v. yet today (just the net), I don’t know if there was ever a camera shot of Bruneel telling Contador to attack, not attack or do what he felt best at the given moment.
I can tell you this … the tour will play out how the tour will play out regardless of the number of so called experts or novices on this forum saying otherwise. Some will get it close to being right and some will be completely off base.
Don’t assume that triathletes don’t know about cycling or cycling tactics … but also don’t assume that all “bike” racers do either.

So now that you have some confirmation that Astana is upset it makes everything okay? How soon we forget that the goal of Astana was to WIN the tour, regardless who was on top. It seems they will do that. So why the criticism?
