How many feet of climbing at IMoo?

Another post from IMLOU got me thinking of this. Does anybody have an idea or better yet some data from a Polar/GPS/other??

I could be way off but I thought I remember reading it was like 6,500’ or so?

That’s around the # I’ve heard also…6,500+/- also.

Less than the DATT.

The true measure of the course is not how much climbing, but the fact that it is short, steep, and very difficult to establish any rhythm in climbing, so it is a very difficult ride. Many people feel that it is tougher than LP because of this mix of hills, and the downhills usually have a sharp turn, so one can’t runout like LP. If you can, get there early in the season for a runthrough, as there are always groups doing the course, in full or parts, and are generally very friendly.

DATT was pretty brutal and hopefully built my confidence a bit for Moo. I did IMoo 2 years back but was just wondering about the numbers. Thanks to all.

With the run combined DATT was around 10’000 feet of climbing. IMOO doesn’t look like a walk in the park but if the compu trainer course is anywhere close there is a lot more steady effort sections.

I’m planning on spending a few days riding the course next month to know for sure.

I did IM MOO last year and on my preview ride, I registered 8,000 ft on the bike. During the race, I had around 7700. That was with my polar S625X.

And what others have said is correct. There are only really 3 “climbs” but you are constantly changing gears and going up and down rollers. Bring a 27 no matter if you are a great climber or not. You won’t use an 11, but you will want to have a 27 in case you need it.

Good point!

It really depends what kind of rider you are. I really loved the course. I don´t like staying in aero for longer time and push hard. Lots of hills, turns etc. fantastic… and the weather…yummm.

For someone you would be described as “gear grinder” that course can be a true nightmare.

p.s.: did I mention the weather?

HERE is a pdf of the bike and run course, although both are slighty out of date the numbers are pretty close.

I agree with Tri-3’s comments. Vertical feet doesn’t tell the whole story.

That looks like all my rides here in PA!
Not a lot of big hills, most around 300-500 feet of climbing, but for most of my 50-70 mile loops I am at 6,000-8,000 feet of climbing!

Looking forward to being prepared then for IMOO this fall…

My Garmin 305 registered around 7800-7900 feet.
