There are more than 2300 signed up for IMCDA 2006. How large a field are they going to permit?
i was just thinking the same thing … i thought it was less than that last year??
It should cap any time now but they ususally sell more slots than they expect athletes to participate. There are usually a few who drop out so it brings the numbers down. I think this year there were only about 1,800-1,900 participants.
They told me they would stop accepting online entries at 2000. So I hurried and signed up. I guess they let a few more in.
I think the number will be 2,400, but I could be wrong! Z
the more the better!! bring em on!!!
This years race had over 2200 sign up, but only 1700 jumped in the water.
At Canada this year, I think there were over 2700 registered, over 2500 picked up packets, and just over 2200 actually started.

300 people picked up race packets but didn’t race?! wtf? That is one expensive race packet!!
I guess if they missed the late cutoff for a refund, they felt they needed to at least get their goody bag.

Not much in the bag, but by checking in they also get the bracelet and admission to the two delicious meals…In Canada in particular, lots of the non-starters were probably in town to sign up to try again next year, as well as spectating/supporting pals - the sign-up issue isn’t so important for the other races.
That makes sense.
I seem to remember something similar at IM Moo '02. They announced that over 2000 people had picked up packets and that it might be a record day, then one 1700+ actually started.
2,472.385, more or less.
What a biz model heh? Your customers beat a path to your door, pay a year in advance and a sizable portion decide they don’t want your (non refundable) product afterall. Pure genius!!
As an aside, I did CDA this year and the new swim course made the mass start much improved. I really enjoyed the swim and didn’t find it all that bad at the start (of course I played a little H2O polo in college).

to keep things reasonable, they’ll probably cap it around 5000 people.
