Does anyone know a website that states how long bike components last?
Too many variables to predict how long they will last. What kind of components? How often is the bike ridden? In what conditions? How often does the rider clean and lube? Ad nauseam. . .
Let assume…
5000+ miles a year
Only dry conditions
Tune as required
Campy Record/Shimano Dura-Ace
If you replace your chain when its needed (there is a tool for this), and you clean/lube your chain a lot, you will probably never wear out any high-end road components. Maybe the cassette . . . but then you probably didn’t change your chain often enough.
10+ years
.
Cleaning once a week with lubing every other ride:
BB - 1 to 3 years depending on riding style and amount of sweat coming off your body.
Chain - 6 months if you’re good with the cleaning and lubing
Cassette - 3 to 5 years depending on amount of wear you allow the chains to go to before replacing
Cranks - same as cassette but probably at least a year more
Cables - 2 to 3 years, but I replace once a year since I’d rather not lose shifting during a race
Shifters - until I’ve crashed too much
Brakes - until I can afford lighter ones
Derailleurs - combination of the above two
Brake pads - 3 to 16 months depending on terrain/traffic/comfort with risk taking
I think that covers most components.
