I’m game for a good 2 hrs w/ a pee break at the hr mark.
It’s almost suicidal ( boring ).

Well i dont ride one of those Fukn things. I dress warm and ride my bike were it belongs… outside.
we’re talking about bike riding, right?
Such a mature reply!!
I racked up the first few of seasons of The Shield in the Tivo and would blow through 4 episodes at a time (just under 3hrs). It really did pass the time quickly.
Yes.
If I have something to entertain me, I’m good for about 90 minutes, but I also find that not only am I entertained, but I’m distracted, and my intensity falls off. So at most I have a radio going nearby. Then I put in a pretty intense 45-60 minutes. But I don’t do IMs…
90mins (2hrs at a stretch) it does my head in, even if watching telly.
The longest I have done is 5:30 with the computrainer. That definitely helped, but it still was mental battle and needless to say my ass was very sore.
When I was training for IM AZ I did several 6 hour rides on the trainer and it was not fun.
Living in the Northeast,I didnt have much of a choice.
This is one of the reasons I will never do another early spring Ironman.
4 hr 15 min, the first winter I trained for my first IM, watching football. Funny how I didn’t do that the last two winters, when i also did IMs.
A better workout, and a little harder, is 1:40 on trainer, 6.2 mile run (outside), 1:40 on the trainer, 4.8 mile run. Run distances are nuanced by my neighborhood layout. Good 5 1/2 hr double brick for unpleasant winter days. Trainer time goes by quicker, runs feel good to get outside. Plenty of time for nutrition and water on the trainer. Can even practice transitions if you like. Win win win. ![]()
I put in a couple of mentally challenging 5 hour rides when training for Long Course Worlds last month. I did the balaclava+toe heat packs+mitts thing outside until I couldn’t stand it anymore, then queued up the DVD player…
A couple of hours and then I am bored.
Pro’s dont do that. It takes o much out of you, and you hit the point of diminishing returns at about 2 hours.
Who ever said I was pro? Do you have dyslexia or a specific learning disorder we should know about?
Whoa - what are you talking about here please.
Depends what I am watching. =)
3 hours if I’m watching one of the Lord of the Rings movies or a football game. The workout quality is noticably lower.
1.5 to 2 hours if I’m watching a good movie. Workout quality is pretty good. Action flics, Rocky/Rambo movies, etc.
45-90 minutes depending if I’m watching 1 or 2 episodes of 24, The Shield, CSI Miami, etc. Workouts are focused and of high quality.
I have also done 1 to 1.5 hours while playing Lego Star Wars 1 and 2 (XBOX) with my son. Workout quality is not so good, but better than nothing.
I prefer the 45-70 minute workouts where cadence and gearing is varied (intervals) … the time seems to fly, and I usually try to beat my time/prace when repeating workouts (with a few weeks in between repeated workouts).
2h45 is the longest I have ever done. My worst was 10’ … The limiting factor is always boredom.
Have gone 3.5 hours. Will watch whatever is on the toob. Usu. watch Ironman vids. Could go longer just need a reason.
Aloha,
Matt
I once did 7 hours. It consisted of 5 hours of biking and 2 hours of running. I have a Computrainer and a treadmill in my basement. I do a lot of 3 hour rides watching Troy Jacobsen’s Spinervals, and have done several 5 hour workouts alternating riding and running. I watch a lot of Tour DVDs!
