How hard is it to convert from 8 speed to 11

You’re on the wrong forum. You have to take it to the main forum called “tri forum” on the index. But to answer your question its ultra hard and not worth the effort as far as I know.

First mistake, glad I got it over with quickly. Thanks

I personally ride a one speed with coaster brakes and some serious streamers from the handlebars. I’m thinking of upgrading to a horn from a bell, thoughts?

If he didn’t just have a kid the minister would make sure you’d never forget this mistake

I think the hub spacing on 8 speed is different than 11 speed…Unless I’m wrong about that you would’t be able to convert.

Let’s start a bunch of triathlon related threads so he’ll have his hands full when he gets back here. Loss of sleep and triathlon threads - I bet we can push him over the deep end.

Game on

I saw that you deleted the original, but as someone else mentioned the spacing is different. That does not necessarily mean that it is difficult or impossible, just something that you need to be aware of with your particular frame. If you have a steel frame, it should be able to be done but I would have a shop do the space change in the back. They will need to carefully bend out the space between the dropouts, if it can be done in your frame. It cannot be done on a carbon frame. You will likely also need new wheels, but that is pretty easy and cheap since 11 speed has been around for a few years now. Mavic was already running 11 speed compatible spacing several years before 11 speed was even out, so you may find a set of those pretty cheap.

Well before you take this shit to the tri forum, I’m running a 10 speed cassette on my '84 Pinarello Asalo, you have to use friction rather than the detents and getting into the small cog is a bit dodgy. And for non tri qualification, the Pinny also breaks the rules with a set of panniers & a trunk bag. I know. I’m baaad…
