Do I need to go there in person to sign up (not a bad drive ~5hr) or can I do it from the comfort of my own computer?
30 minutes online last year.
Based on what happened at LP, I’d suggest the drive if you want to make sure…
I agree with funkman. I anticipate some logistical issues with on-line registration and- given the proximity of the race to major metropolitan areas- there will be a lot of people on hand to register. If you are serious about getting in you better go there to register.
Make the drive if you want a spot. This race keeps setting records for filling up the fastest. I wouldn’t doubt if there is no online registration this year. It’s bound to happen eventually for one of them.
How much does it cost to register? Do they take money right there or what? Just wondering if I have to bring money, and how much of it to bring.
Last year they gave you a certificate with a number on it for validation. Registration happened a month or so later online. I think that is the way it is happening at the races this year. You pay online when you register.
Last year while all of our friends were standing in line, my wife and I registered online from the hotel room with no issues what so ever.
Lake Placid this year did 1600 from onsite. The other 800 slots over the internet went in like 10 minutes.
I plan on being there to sign up for 2008.
Does it matter how early I go to stand in line, or does pretty much everyone who goes to register in person get a spot?
Do they let you register a friend?
I want to do IMWI again but I figure that considering how fast USA filled and now there is even greater anticipation to getting it, it will sell out as fast if not faster than IMUSA. Wisconsin has a huge triathlon crowd which seems to get bigger every year and more and more of them want to do IMWI. I am doing IM Louisville this year and if it turns out to be a good event, I will sign up again for next year…being pretty sure that it won’t be filling nearly as quickly as most of the other races due to the fact that a lot of people seem to have something against Louisville (which I don’t understand) and swimming in the Ohio (which I do understand). Plus only having to drive only a few hours for Louisville makes it a much more convenient event at that time of the year than any other race. Also, Louisville has the added benefit of being one of the cheapest races for me: I got a nice hotel within walking distance of the start and finish for less than $100. Lake Placid was the most expensive but also the most beautiful but it will take me a few years before I can afford to stay there again…much less get in!
Let’s hope NAS provides some clarification regarding sign up, after the events in LP this week. My guess is that you will only be able to sign yourself up, and will need ID to prove you are who you say you are.
This would be a departure from IMLP, where they said you could register yourself and one other person.
I was just onsite for 08 IMLP registration, we got there around 7 AM for the 9 AM reg., and there was already a line about 500-600 deep. They said everyone that was onsite would get into the race, I’m not sure what their cap was, but I thought it was realistic to have all the spots filled before online even opened.
I know all of the people that showed @ 9 when registration was supposed to open got in, so I wouldn’t worry about getting there too early, unless you want to get home earlier.

I hope not since trading vouchers is becoming a closet industry.
Don’t even sign up… weather will be: 95, 80% humidity, and winds from 20-30mph.
