WTF? Jameis Winston physically shoves a ref out of his way, and no penalty? The official is there specifically to prevent the QB from snapping before the Defense can get set when there’s an offensive substitution. Pretty poor.
The douche has gotten a free pass on everything. Hell, daddy blames FSU for not assigning a personal bodyguard to pretext him from himself. Pretty pathetic.
Don’t get me started on NCAA officiating. Bad and getting worse.

Yeah, I was pretty shocked. I don’t watch much college football but when BC is in a bigger game I’ll tune in, as I did yesterday. So I didn’t understand why the ref was standing in Winston’s way until they explained it.
I also loved how they laughed it off on the broadcast, like it was no big deal. Procedurally the ref is there to prevent exactly what Winston was attempting, how is that not a flag and a DB move on his part at a bare minimum?!?
Yep, totally agree, I watched a bit of the game, first FSU game I watched all year. They don’t impressive. But some how pull it out every week.

The ACC is chickenshit if it doesn’t penalize Winston for this action. FSU has proven thay are chickenshit.

Flag, yes without question.
DB move? He could just be ignorant of the rule.

Definitely flag.
Serious question…why was he behind center instead of over the ball? Maybe I’m oblivious but I’ve never seen that before…doesn’t excuse putting your hands on the ref though.

Even if he was ignorant of the rule, that doesn’t make physically pushing the ref and then yelling at him OK. Recently a few players have been suspended by the conference retroactively for less egregious acts towards a ref, see Maryland’s Stefon Diggs recent suspension.
I understand that it is up to the ref to throw the flag, and if he didn’t that is OK, what bothers me more was Jimbo’s response. He is sticking to his story that Winston did it “inadvertently.” It’s not like he did not see him there, accidentally brushed him and then apologized; it is very obvious he meant to push him out of the way and then had a few words. Winston could kill his family, in front of him, and he’d make up some sort of excuse.

Take this with a grain of salt because I don’t watch college FB all that often, but I read on a few sites that he the center was over the ball before the ref got there, so he stood behind center instead. Whether that’s the correct protocol for the ref is beyond me, but he was ultimately trying to give the defense the allotted time to substitute.

I don’t think that I am a douche, however, if I was caught up in a game and the clock was running out and I saw the ref blocking me from running a play (and I happened to be ignorant of the rule) I could see myself doing what Winston did.
Having said that, it’s also just as likely that he’s a self absorbed douche that thinks he can get away with anything.

Ignorant of the rule that says you can’t physically shove a ref? Not likely.

Being “caught up in the game” is no excuse for not obeying the rules. The ref was doing exactly what the rules entail. And the little yell afterward, as if the ref was doing something wrong, was the cherry on top.
OK, what bothers me more was Jimbo’s response.
Jimbo’s responses to everything Winston just send me through the roof. Every single time I see him on TV he is just blowing off the latest thing Winston has done and trying to make it look like everyone is picking on him. I hope he doesn’t actually believe the things that come out of his mouth.

All I am saying is that it’s possible that he got caught up in the moment.
The ref clearly should have thrown a flag. Why isn’t anyone bagging on him?

Because the ref was just doing his job. His job according to the ACC = FSU winning.

Until Notre Dame “joins” the conference, yes.
I went to youtube to see it (just out of curiosity since I do not care too much about college football.) and noticed that the play clock was running.
so what am I missing? AFAIK Winston is allowed to snap once the play clock starts no?
Fred.

Guys get caught up in the moment in every single game, every Saturday. Usually they are flagged; usually in this situation they are suspended. BTW, the ACC just released their response and it is pretty much what Jimbo Fisher said…they’ve got to protect their one chance at a national championship.

Unless one of the refs on the field says otherwise. It’s not uncommon for the person operating the clock to be out of sync with what’s happening on the field. That’s why the refs on the field ultimately control the clock and will adjust when necessary.
Even if he was allowed to snap, that doesn’t justify him shoving the ref aside.
To me, that behavior is incomprehensible. Sure, it’s a different sport, but I remember when playing water polo, both club, high school, and college, that any kind of expressed displeasure with a call, even a dropped jaw, could result in an ejection. It was about respecting the refs, and they let us know it. It was also about playing the game – if I was lucky enough that the ref missed my reaction, I would still hear of it from my coach.

Not sure of the exact circumstance here but the play clock starts after a first down and after going out of bounds outside 2 minutes to go once the ball is set. In either of those cases or tackled short of a first down, if the offense has substituted the defense is given time to make their own substitutions. In that case the ref will stand over the ball and not allow it to be snapped.
