How do you taper Triple T race week?

Do you treat it like an Ironman taper or more just part of a huge training week and lower volume early in the week but keep intensity up?
I’m Pro Life for this race…I want to survive and will not be racing
Andrew

i am going to taper for it by racing a sprint 4 of the 5 weeks leading up to it (including the week before).

the last few days i am doing fairly little. day off after than back to taper for rockman:)

According to Fefe’s cabin post, he likes to drink beer, alot of beer. I think he may be onto something, it will probably calm those prerace jitters

I am treating it similar to a IM or HIM. My schedule calls for a 3 week taper that will likely be 10-14 days.

2 years ago I treated it as an IM taper with some good results (for me).

I think ‘he’ is a ‘she’ and I’m all for the beer taper

I’m doing a 600 km ride the weekend before in the Appalacians mtns, the rest of the week before I’ll be carbo loading with beer.

Andrew, my week looks like this:
Monday off
Tuesday Swim 4km+, Run ~:40 steady
Wednesday Run ~:60ez Bike :75 Z2
Thursday Run ~:40 steady, Swim ~3500 w/ some fast 50s
Friday Bike :60 Z1/2 in am to move some blood + Race with a good warm-up and cool down
Saturday Race, Recover, Race
Sunday Race, decide to never race another triathlon…ever, enjoy a few beers, decide to come out of “retirement”!

Really just another (light) training week with some (hopefully) quality on the weekend.

I think ‘he’ is a ‘she’ and I’m all for the beer taper

Andrew
My bad, no disrespect meant. She sounds like a fun girl to hang out with, and very honest and to the point!

Thanks Ian,

I’ve been thinking about that retirement thing as well but I can sort of run now and don’t want to give that up

Not worried at all and I agree, she puts in some serious hrs training!

I’m WAY behind on my TTT training right now, so I’m feeling your nightmares! Just got back from two weeks in Australia only running and swimming sporadically. I’ve been trying to get sort of caught up but have been battling some stomach bug and a leg injury that had me take a week off running. Today was my first day running again. Between the lingering injury pain and the stomach thing, my run sucked. Was supposed to be 14 miles, but I cut it down to 6 and will take my training day off, which is normally Sunday, and do the 14, assuming I’m feeling better.
I’m going to really suffer Memorial Day weekend!

Keep at it TBB,

We are all going to hurt that weekend…hopefully some ice and ibuprofen can get you through the leg problems.
Now get that Typhoon under you and roll!

I’m a GIRL!!!

The short one in the pic. But I do like to drink beer.

FYI for my taper, I’m just doing a teensy bit less Monday-Wednesday of race week.

I’ve been drinking 2 beers per day the last 8 weeks and training f’in hard. Have done 2 sprints, 3 Oly’s and 2 1/2 IM’s in training for this s**t. I am feeling ultra strong and ready. Just need a bit more biking on some hills and I’m good to go. Which is about where I should be

And to repeat,
I’M A GIRL. Look at my blog.

I didn’t really taper for this race since it was just a long training weekend for me. I did my normal weekly schedule except I removed anything that would have really pounded my legs (like hill repeats, for example). I took Thursday off since I drove down to the site on that day.

Good luck! I’m jealous of all of you. Hope to be back in 2009.

Here’s my two weeks leading up to TTT.

Week of: 5/12/08 Phase:recovery
Monday: swim ez 30 minutes Tuesday: swim 1000 or 20-30 minutes with focus on drills and form Wednesday: ride 45-90 minutes easy hr BELOW 120 bpm. Thursday: swim easy 30 minutes Friday: swim 20-30 minutes easy Saturday: ride 2 hours hr 120-155 Sunday: ride 6 hours base 120-140, add hills and climbs… brick run 5 miles
. Week of: 5/19/08 Phase
Monday: OFF Tuesday: spinny ride 30-60 min Wednesday: off Thursday: swim 10 min, bike 15 , run 10, just get loose. Friday: TTT Saturday: TTT Sunday: TTT

My taper started two days ago. My IT band really started hurting so I won’t do much but swim and stretch for the next three weeks. TTT is a hard training weekend for me since I have the Roth IM several weeks after that. I now have worries of injuring myself further in the TTT.

fefe is a she. And welcome to the Bossman club.
