I have vaccumed, cleaned, everythig and I cant get rid of these damn little ants. My neibors have been having problems too. I am ready to get medevil on their ant asses but I dont want to do anything too crazy because I have 2 cats here and dont want to harm them. any suggestions??? thanks!!!
Ant traps (at your local hardware or grocery store) work well - we have never had cat issues with them although I could imagine that a curious young one might see it as a toy were it placed on the floor in a corner.
I had to hire an ant sniper. The guy I hired was pretty expensive because he was an extremely accurate marksman - but he took care of the problem.
Double bonus! Get rid of the ants and the cats!! ![]()
Sorry. Just a little dog person humor.
+1 to Boudreaux’s solution. I’ve got a cat and used ant traps. The cat was never interested in them. The traps I used were the ones where the ant takes to poison back to its nest. The traps worked very well. I left the traps out for a couple of weeks and that fixed the problem.
Funny you mention that. The University of Victoria is overrun with rabbits, and they’ve become a HUGE problem. (It’s not limited to UVic, but anyway…) The University is struggling with a way to humanely trap and euthanize the bunnies without causing all of the animal activist groups and oversensitive students to freak out. It’s costing them a tonne of money, and is taking forever.
They had this same problem something like 30 years ago, and hired a sharpshooter. He was done in a long weekend. ![]()
Ant traps work with cats if you just put them someplace hard to get at.
I would also highly recommend bringing in a pest control guy.
Our house is on a slab with radiant heat under the floor which pretty much makes for a year round ant farm. For several years we used ant traps and Terro. Worked, killed them for a while but they inevitable came back a couple months later and we’d start all over.
One year the brother in law said, well I’ll just come over and spray. He owns a pest control business. 2 years, haven’t seen a serious amount of ants. Not sure what he used but the dog seems fine…this extra arm is getting a little irritating though.

Another vote for ant traps (you can tape them down).
other suggestions:
-
put ant killer outside your house, all the way around the house. I’ve done this in the past and it worked well. Get some of the dry stuff and a hand spreader, and put it all around the foundation of the house.
-
for inside, sprinkle dry grits or flour mixes with a pinch of sugar in the area where the ants are coming in. The ants will eat the dry stuff and die, then you can vaccuum them up.
“Ant sniper” TOO funny!!!
If the Ant sniper isn’t available try Windex- Kills and cleans at the same time.
thanks guys!!! ant sniper it is…

So worth it. We had tried everything and these guys came out, sprayed inside and out and put down some more bait (looked like toothpaste). A few days later we were seeing dead ants on the floor. Within a week they were everywhere. Just kept vacuuming them up and since then I haven’t seen a live or dead one. So happy not to battle that. We have a cat too and he never thought twice about sniffing around at where the guy sprayed.
I had a terrible ant problem last year. This is the only stuff that worked.

That’s why I use non-child-safe ant killer. Keeps away the ants and the kids.
I put down lots of traps this spring, and my cat didn’t go near them. Possibly because I’ve put them in corners and out of the way, but he expressed no curiosity at them anyway. Hopefully that means they’re not frying his brain or anything. But I can tell you the RAID traps (red package) haven’t lessened my ant problem at all. I think the only thing that has been working is trying to be as vigilant as possible about food debris in the kitchen area. I was making a sandwich and didn’t notice a drop of honey drip into the sink…a few hours later it was like a damn parade. Those bastards take what they can get.

One response to that is to release about a dozen feral cats loose on the campus. You should have about a hundred feral cats and zero rabbits in about a year.
try this…

DUDE IT WORKED!!! I left that pic pn he screen overnight and the ants got scared and left!!! thanks man!!!
Get rid of the smelly cats. Dude cat’s ? Whats up with that ? I am sure there are some sportfish charter boat captains that can use them.
I had a terrible ant problem last year. This is the only stuff that worked.

x2 on this. I had ants once and after trying all the non-poison things with no success, this took care of the problem in a day and a half.
Ues this stuff

Don’t know where you live, but look for a EWING irrigation store (ewing1.com), they sell for cheaper and have more options. Like Talstar. (same active ingredient, Bifenthrin)
I’ve been in the Landscaping industry for a bit, This will work in and out of the house,I have a dog and cat. This is what the pros use and charge out the wazoo for. I’ve used it near and around my dishwasher and fridge. Also put a barrier around the base of your home. And if you wanna get crazy, drill holes in the concrete and pour this in, then cement back up the hole. BAM!!! 10yr bond done. With out the certificate of course.
This bottle will last for a while.
Good luck.
