How do you know when

… your headset needs replacing?

I built up a Litespeed Saber this winter. When I tighten everything down, the steering doesn’t move. If I loosen it up enough to move freely, then the fork chatters.

Any ideas? It’s an integrated headset, so it’s not like I could mess up the installation… I think. But if there’s a way to cock it up, I will have done it.

If it needs replacing, it’s an IS-8, right?

Thanks!!!

this may sound stupid, but does your fork have the crown race nstalled? I replaced a fork once and in my haste I forgot to put the crown race on the new fork and it would bind up on me.

Ha! Not stupid. In fact, it was the first thing I checked.

But then again… it’s there.

Good thought tho

Trust me, it is possible to mess this up. Double check the order of all parts on the bottom and the top. Also double check the direction of the install of the plastic compression sleeves.

I guarantee you are either missing a part, have them out of order, or have one in the wrong direction.

I’ve done this.
