This seems to be the hardest thing for me to do!
Hasn’t been difficult for me since July 23rd…
Now if I could only start again…
Don’t take a day off. Just take a day off when life gets in the way of training. If not, train (take it easy when you need to, but a 30 min swim or spin will never kill ya).
Dev
You: Self, i insist you take a day off.
Self: but, i don’t want to!
You: shut up, you wimp
Self: hey, no need to get abusive, i just want to train
You: i’d kick your ass if i weren’t so tired from training 980 days in a row
Self: but you know, we could make it 981…
You: that sounds good. but i’m going to take all of my clothes and throw them in the toilet so i’ll have to go out naked if i decide to train
Self: ok, ok, ok. don’t do that. i like the clothes. today i’ll just go 5 minutes without training. one day at a time.
You: deal. don’t even think about looking at those running shoes.
Self: not even 1 mile? it’ll only take me 6 or 7 minutes. i’ll be back before you know it.
You: nope. today is a day off. i’m going to make you say it Self. (hold clothes over toilet, just for extra measure). Say it! Today is a day off, now say it! (put clothes closer to toilet water)
Self: ok. (sobbing). don’t throw my favorite socks in the toilet. please. i’ll take a day off. (sobbing more and waving white flag)
Drink 30 beers the night before…
Nothing wrong with zero days off, as long as one day a week is veeeeery easy. As Dev said, life will inevitibly get in the way and you will eventually be forced to take a day off.
Stress fracture!
Hear, hear… lately it’s been more a matter of how to convince myself to actually train for a day!
LOL. I LOVE my fellow bottom feeders! Keep up the good work, fellas.
Drink 30 beers the night before…
That works very well!!!
That may just do it! OMG do I hate wet socks!
yeah, running in toilet water socks is the worst.
resting heart rate
.
God, all this time and i thought it was just me.
What I did, which I found to be very effective at creating days off:
-
Develop a rather severe case of Plantar Fasciitis. This is good for approximately 365 consecutive days off, and should effectively ruin 2 seasons. Just when you start to feel better, and there is a glimmer of hope of salvaging the last race of the season–
-
Have a pretty serious bike accident in which you break your tailbone, sprain your back, and acquire nerve damage in your hip/glutes/back. This is good for another (currently >90, but unknown number) days off.
Of course, your mileage may vary.
What I’d give for a day on, and I know that there are folks injured far worse than me.
I’m with you and Target and Snoots et al. Nasty Achilles tendon strain. And now I can barely drag my ass to the pool one day a week. How do I get myself to take a day ON?
You do not become stronger when you train. You only improve your fitness while resting after hard training. Rest is as much a part of training as working out.
If you train every single day, you are not being an athlete but just manifesting some sort of addictive personality defect.
Works for me ![]()
Do like me and make an appointment for a lower GI set. 48 hr fast - I don’t think I’ll be training through that!
Food poisoning for 2 days…that took care of it ![]()
