Have so much kit ready at the TdF? Such as Boonen’s Specialized painted green to match the jersey. They made a big deal about having to custom build him a carbon Tarmac and now, one day after being in the green jersey he has a green bike? Also, Cancellara with the yellow kit? I can kind of get his as he was a favorite in the prologue.
Right now is the off season for Santa’s elves. Some of them moonlight as jersey and bike decorators for the tour.
Seriously, I don’t know. But, it is just one more thing to watch on the tour.
er, boonen is a favorite for the green jersey. also, once they’ve made the moulds for his custom carbon frame they can make a few of them…he does need the odd spare and training bike, not too hard to paint one green…
Money talks. They used to have a trailer that did the jerseys. Not that big of an issue if you have the printshop you can do it all just have blanks from the teams printed up for the main sizes. They probably never made a KOM jersey for Magnus B. We are talking big money here so there is wastage, but hey maybe we paint up a bike anticipating a jersey so we can amaze all the fans the very next day. That is the big show. A couple grand could do the bike thing, if it never happens, we never see it. Same as the Super Bowl hats and shirts, where do you think the losing team hats go when we see the winners wearing theirs 10 seconds after the game? In the dumpster like the old jerseys that never get won.
A lot of those Super Bowl shirtss get donated. My friend was in PeaceCorps or something similar, I forget where he was, but he said he saw a whole bunch of little kids in Buffalo Bills Super Bowl champion t-shirts.
It might be covered with vinyl stickers. That’s really common in auto racing.
Why would they not do something special like that for Boonen? He’s a big deal as well. If they have a chance of grabbing yellow, they’re worth throwing a few $$ at.
Tried to buy a Carolina Panthers shirt right after the superbowl that year. They would not sell it to me if though I offered double the price of the shirt.
Ummm, this is probably not what you’re really asking, but this is about the jersey’s:

Don’t give me a hard time if it’s not what you meant, I’m new:)
.
I didn’t ask *why *did they? I get that Boonen is a big name. I am asking how they do it at that quick of a turn around, ie. the green bike. Do they have them made and ready just in case? Or do they just slap some green stickers on them as someone else had mentioned.
Oooh. I remember when Cancellara took yellow, they interviewed him and he was saying that they already had a yellow kit ready for him. I’m assuming they knew that Boonen was going to get green so they had a kit made up already.
I’m fairly sure they had the bike ready in advance because they anticpated that Boonen would be in the green jersey at some point. Landis rolled out on a yellow bike last year. When that happened I remember the team director saying he had the bike made in advance as a surprise for Floyd because he was confident that Floyd would spend some time in yellow. I think Boonen in green is even more predictable than Floyd was to be in yellow, so it was probably a calculated risk to have the bike ready.
I’m waiting for someone to ride a polka dot bike . . .
it’s like it has the chicken pox.
that’s pretty sweet.
